Chicago doughnut shop pays tribute to late comedian on receipts
By WGN Web Desk
An employee at a Wicker Park donut shop was recently “given the ability to control what gets printed on the receipts,” and he used his power to pay tribute to a late comedian.
On his first receipt, Jon Becker, a 27-year-old staffer at Stan’s Donuts, quoted Mitch Hedberg’s doughnut routine. The quote reads, in part: “I bought a donut and they gave me a a receipt for the donut. I don’t need a receipt for the donut. I give you money and you give me the donut, end of transaction.”
He uploaded a photo of the receipt to Reddit and the post went viral.
According to Yahoo, Becker’s boss loved the tribute, but his boss’s boss didn’t. So they’re now using a quote from “Simpsons” creator Matt Groening: “Donuts, is there anything they can’t do?”
Yahoo reports that Hedberg died in 2005 of a drug overdose. He was 37.
