A documentary about Lorenzo Johnson will be screened at the CUNY Film Festival this Friday, April 28

The Long Road Back was produced by Brooke Williams. The film documents the double injustice experienced by Lorenzo, released after sixteen and a half years due to insufficient evidence — only to be reincarcerated due to a legal technicality. Join his friend, exoneree Jeffrey Deskovic, as Jeffrey re-creates his and Lorenzo’s drive back to prison in 2012. Lorenzo, from behind bars, narrates his thoughts about returning to prison for a crime he did not commit. Visit Lorenzo’s home and listen to Lorenzo’s wife, mother, brother, and friends recount the terrible journey that he has been forced to take.

jadakissLorenzo Johnson served 16 and a half years of a life-without-parole sentence until 2012, when the Third Circuit Federal Court of Appeals ruled there was legally insufficient evidence for his conviction. He remained free for four months, after which the US Supreme Court unanimously reinstated the conviction and ordered him back to prison to resume the sentence. With the support of The Pennsylvania Innocence Project, he is continuing to fight for his freedom. Though he does not have internet access himself, you can email his campaign, make a donation, or sign his petition and learn more at:http://www.freelorenzojohnson.org/sign-the-petition.html.
Lorenzo is continuing to fight for his freedom with the support of his lead counsel, Michael Wiseman, The Pennsylvania Innocence Project, the Jeffrey Deskovic Foundation for Justice, and the Campaign to Free Lorenzo Johnson.
