Alternating melodic flights of fancy with endlessly inventive rhymes, 03 Greedo redefines the sound of Los Angeles hip-hop. Just days after announcing Still Summers In The Projects album, executive produced by L.A. superproducer Mustard, Greedo shared the video for the project’s lead single “Wasted,” featuring an appearance from YG. Premiered last week by Rolling Stone, the single is a titanic banger and a super-charged throwback to the ratchet era. The brand new video dramatizes the “2019 Stripper Olympics,” shining a spotlight on some of Southern California’s finest dancers as they compete. Featuring additional appearances from Shoreline Mafia and Trilliano, Still Summer In The Projects arrives this Spring via Alamo/Interscope. Enjoy this video stream below after the jump and please share this with friends.
Greedo’s first project since starting his prison sentence, Still Summer In The Projects is merely the beginning of a series of pre-loaded music from the Watts native. Upgrading and refining the sound that dominated pop music, Mustard crafts fiery West Coast instrumentals, complementing his signature handclaps and hi-hat rolls with bouncy synths and liquid keys. Ever an unconventional emcee, Greedo approaches the beats from odd angles, sliding entrancing melodic lines squarely within the instrumental’s negative space. Spanning 11 songs, Still Summer In the Projects displays the versatility and variety typical of a Greedo project, ranging from wavy trap ballads like “Gettin Ready,” to ferocious and cocky street tales like “Bet I Walk,” and riders’ anthems like “Trap House.” The project culminates in the gorgeous closing track “Visions,” which finds Greedo reflecting on his prison sentence and envisioning his comeback, ending with a confessional delivered by Greedo through a prison phone.
