070 Phi’s inaugural EP Outside has been released today, giving listeners an inside look into the life of the New Jersey lyricist. His diverse collection of sounds, energy, and range of topics featured on the debut EP is just the start for Phi, who has recently signed to Mass Appeal. Check out his first video “Love is Love”. In his new EP, Phi tests the limits of his musical abilities on the journey to reach his true sound. “The whole concept of Outside has a double meaning for me,” Phi explains of his project. “In life form, it’s me learning life lessons from being outside since my father wasn’t there and my mother was always working. Then musically it’s me stepping out of the box and trying new sounds.” The title track encapsulates that sentiment, showcasing Phi’s dynamic ability to weave storytelling into a punchy delivery.
As is true with any freshman artist, Phi explains the many moments of his life and crafts them into a story. The theme of this story being unconditional love, which he adamantly stands for without pause. “That’s how I live my life—whether it’s tough love, self-love, just working with the ways of the world and pushing that energy out there,” he adds. “That’s what this project is about, finding that love in the mix.” With Nas’ label as a platform to explore and fine tune his talent, the future looks bright for the New Jersey phenom.
