Denzel Curry on South Florida, XXXTentacion, Raider Klvn and More | The Studio Interview

Mon Aug 13 , 2018
“F*ck that rap star sh*t, I’m an artist,” says Denzel Curry with a laugh. “I don’t wanna be a rapper. All rappers are dicks.” The South Florida mainstay passed through MASS APPEAL HQ to talk about his acclaimed ‘TA13OO’ album. “Everybody was putting me in a box,” he said. “I got tired of that shit. I’m more than what you think I am.” Curry spoke about the inspiration behind his controversial “Clout Cobain” video, and the joke that inspired it. “People had no choice but to talk about me,” he said of the satirical clip, which culminates with the artist’s suicide. The video was completed just weeks before XXXTentacion’s tragic murder, but Curry did not hesitate to release it. “Home is where the heart is but it’s also where the hate is as well,” says Curry, who decided to leave Florida for Los Angeles. During his last conversation with X, he encouraged the artist born Jahseh Onfroy to get out of town. Although he did not take Curry’s advice, the close friends did take the opportunity to clear the air between them. “Me and him started plotting to take over everything,” says Curry. “If people wanna be real, Malcolm X—when he was Detroit Red—wasn’t an angel or a saint either. And he became one of the most powerful people on this earth.” Check out Denzel Curry's Studio Interview right now. --------------Mass Appeal-------------- Website: http://massappeal.com Twitter: http://twitter.com/massappeal Instagram: http://instagram.com/massappeal Facebook: http://facebook.com/massappeal What started as a humble graffiti ‘zine in 1996 would soon grow to be one of the most trusted outlets for youth-spawned urban culture.
