201 Sunni on His Writing Process, His Latest Project “2:58am Freestyle” & More [Interview]

Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself?

201 Sunni: My name is Suarez, stage name 201 Sunni. I was born and raised in Bennettsville SC. I am the oldest of five boys. My hobbies include fishing, recording music, and spending time with my family. I am currently an IS/IT Deployment Specialist. I love to travel and shop.

Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?

201 Sunni: I have been in the music industry officially for about three months now. I dropped my first official song on streaming services on December 20. I have been helping promote other artists for over 10 years though.

Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?

201 Sunni: I was always a big fan of music growing up. So one day in 4th grade we had to write a song for our journal entry. I remixed “I Got the Hook-Up” by Master P into “I Got the Hiccups”. After that, I joined a few groups. Moreover, in 6th grade, my daddy brought me a tape player and a tape recorder. I took a song the Hot Boys made and the instrumental for the song to add my verse. All on a cassette tape. I did a St. Lunatics song the same way. People at school thought I was the shit. Lol.

Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your sound?

201 Sunni: It is hard to describe my sound. Well to me anyway. I listen to so many people as an artist that it is hard for me to put a sound on it. I try to keep it original and do my own thing.

Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

201 Sunni: I would definitely say all Atlanta musical artist inspire me. I love the way Atlanta’s music scene is and how the music makes you bounce whether the lyrics ride or not. Nate Dogg has a heavy influence on my music as well. He was like the hook god back in the day. Old School R&B inspires me too. I was raised on all kinds of music so everything influences me.

201 Sunni on His Writing Process, His Latest Project "2:58am Freestyle" & More [Interview]Getmybuzzup: How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?

201 Sunni: When I write I normally write to a beat. I listen to a beat for about 10-30 seconds sometimes shorter and then I start writing. Some songs I write with no beat. I consider those freestyles. Only because the style is free, it was written with no pattern in mind.

Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your latest project?

201 Sunni: My latest project “2:58am Freestyle” didn’t really have a concept. My homeboy was listening to Splurge and I made a similar style beat and dropped a freestyle on it.
