Aaron Beri
By Jack Barnes
Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself?
Aaron Beri: I’m an Englishman who currently lives in Australia. I’ve always liked writing poetry, and I guess you can say that I started songwriting several years ago when I merged some of my poems with music to form ‘Avalanche’, my debut album. When I’m not in the studio you can bet I’m hanging out with my dog or doing something creative.
Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?
Aaron Beri: Not very long. Even though I have been song writing for some time now, it was only 2 years ago that I stepped into a studio and started recording my songs. Fortunately the feedback I received was encouraging, so I decided to turn my first song into the album ‘Avalanche’.
Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?
Aaron Beri: A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to sing at a friend’s fashion show and once I performed on stage I was hooked. It was after that experience and with the encouragement of those already in the industry that I started to develop my career.
Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your sound?
Aaron Beri: The tone and arrangement of each of the songs on the album vary quite a lot. The sound is broadly pop with a bit of RnB, however the song ‘Kingdom Falls’ is a bit more serious and the last track ‘Stay’ is quite acoustic. I like to think my sound can be quite broad if it helps the project I’m working on.
Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?
Aaron Beri: There are so many inspirational people within the industry. The people I work with are a major inspiration, however if there is someone who I find particularly inspiring, it would be the songwriter Diane Warren. She has done everything from Aerosmith’s ‘Don’t wanna miss a thing’ to Toni Braxton’s ‘Unbreak My Heart’. If I could be half the song writer she is I’d be very happy.
Getmybuzzup: What are you currently working on?
Aaron Beri: Currently I’m busy promoting my debut album Avalanche, but I’ve also been busy in the studio recording some new songs for a single and upcoming EP. Although my music is evolving a little, I think my fans will find plenty of strong vocals and interesting lyrics to keep them interested.
Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your latest project?
Aaron Beri: Whereas Avalanche was a concept album, exploring the heartbreak of a dissolving relationship, my upcoming EP will be a bit more upbeat. There is less of a lyrical concept behind the EP, but perhaps the musical thread will be the stronger theme in this project.
Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest project?
Aaron Beri: Not just yet. I have been so busy back in the studio, writing and recording that my time has been limited. But as some special projects are nearer completion you can expect to see me out there real soon!
Getmybuzzup: What did you buy with your first check off music?
Aaron Beri: I went out for a fancy dinner with some friends and family.
Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?
Aaron Beri: I think my best advice would be to try and remain true to the sound you want to create and believe in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, it’s hard to convince an audience you’re worth listening to.
Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists on this project or in the future?
Aaron Beri: I will be undertaking some colabs in the near future, but I won’t say too much about those just now.
Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?
Aaron Beri: I like to think different people find different parts of my music to enjoy the most. I know my songs can be quite lyrical and sometimes poetic, so I certainly focus a lot on getting the story within my songs just right. The music is obviously equally important and I spend a lot of time trying to give my words the right beat and mood to enhance the story of the song. Essentially, I hope my audience likes the whole package.
Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc..)
Aaron Beri: At this stage of my career, I’m still carving out my identity within the business. It’s hard for me to say what I should specifically be improving on, but I think it’s always important to recognize the success is based on great songwriting underpinned by solid production, a good marketing plan and respect for the audience.
Getmybuzzup: What’s your all-time favorite song?
Aaron Beri: The Roof – Mariah Carey. The mood it sets is so rich and nostalgic for me.
Getmybuzzup: In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?
Aaron Beri: That’s a very hard question, I’ll get back to you!
Getmybuzzup: Who have been some of your favorite artists that you’ve been able to work with?
Aaron Beri: I have been a lone wolf for the Avalanche project, doing all of the harmonies and vocals myself. However, you can expect to hear someone pretty cool appearing on the new EP.
Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?
Aaron Beri: Technology has caused a lot of disruption to both music and the music industry in the last 10-15 years and I think that’s both challenging and exciting. For those who are independent artists, the industry may have shifted in our favour. Like most artists, I use technology a lot in both the production and marketing of my music. Plenty of people bemoan the state of the industry, but I’m actually pretty positive about the future.
Getmybuzzup: What is your main goal as far as music?
Aaron Beri: As an independent artist I believe it’s important to build a solid connection with my audience and offer them something more than disposable music. By creating songs with enduring meaning I hope to build a loyal fan base that actively seeks my new material.
Getmybuzzup: Who would you say your music relates to the most?
Aaron Beri: I aim to write songs with universal appeal. In approaching the Avalanche album, I tried to craft songs that both guys and girls could equally relate to. It’s a cliché, but I want as many people to enjoy my music as possible.
Getmybuzzup: What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)
Aaron Beri: It’s hard to be too unique, but I believe my strengths ….
Getmybuzzup: When your not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?
Aaron Beri: I like to hang out with my dog and spend time with my family and friends. I live in a busy city, so I really enjoy getting away to the country to enjoy some peace and the occasional horse ride.
Getmybuzzup: If you could work with any producer who would it be?
Aaron Beri: That’s easy, the producer London Holmes. Also known as ‘London on da track’.
Getmybuzzup: What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?
Aaron Beri: Finishing and releasing the Avalanche album was a major milestone that I’m very pleased with. I’ve got plenty of other goals ahead and I hope there will be lots more highlights in the future.
Getmybuzzup: What artist music are you currently a fan of?
Aaron Beri: Recently the rapper Future has been on replay around my house.
Getmybuzzup: When performing live what are some of the things you do to get the crowd involved?
Aaron Beri: I tend to prefer playing intimate venues, so being close to the crowd is a good trick for drawing them in. I find people are pretty responsive at my shows.
Getmybuzzup: What can we expect from you in the future?
Aaron Beri: In the near future, look out for my EP, a single and even a colab or two.
Getmybuzzup: Anything else you wanna add?
Aaron Beri: Nope.
Getmybuzzup: Where can the fans check out for your music?
Aaron Beri: My music is available on pretty much all platforms just head over to aaronberi.com and don’t forget to follow me on social media.
