New Project: Action Bronson | White Bronco [Audio]

By Jack Barnes

Established as a New York Times-bestselling author, a master chef, and an experienced television host, Action Bronson excels at every task he sets out to accomplish. Today, Bronson shares White Bronco, his first project as an independent artist since 2012. The follow-up to 2017’s Blue Chips 7000, White Bronco features production from Bronson’s longtime collaborator Party Supplies, as well as contributions from Knxwledge, Harry Fraud, Daringer, Samiyam and Bronson’s live band The Special Victims’ Unit. With a surreal front cover painted by the Queens-born icon himself, White Bronco showcases a liberated Action Bronson, free from constraints or distractions. Featuring appearances from A$AP RockyMeyhem LaurenYung Mehico, and Big Body BesWhite Bronco is available now on all DSPs via EMPIRE. Action Bronson explained the title in an interview with Ebro Darden for Hot 97: “I called it White Bronco, because of a dream I had. In a dream, I saw these horses running, you know? I just saw horses running–stallions–all kinds of different crazy ones. But then there was me: the singular white one, the albino rose. There was no taming. He looked like he was on steroids. Like, crazy juice. I do like the car also, It’s a fuckin’ beast. It’s a fuckin’ gas guzzler, though.”

Earlier this month, Action Bronson shared Prince Charming,” a soul-sampling highlight from the project. Produced by Knxwledge, “Prince Charming” is a lyrical showcase for Bronson, flashing boasts with twisty internal rhymes, all imbued with a subtle paranoia: “A strong sense lingers/Something’s going wrong, I can feel it in my fingers/Like arthritis/When it’s raining.” The second single from the project, “Prince Charming” followed “White Bronco” and its hallucinatory video, which transforms Bronson’s face into a canvas for striking images and psychedelic effects. “White Bronco” received acclaim from Pitchfork, who raved “Bronson proves he’s still one of rap’s most vivid trash-talkers, bragging about his Lamborghini trucks, red leather jackets, and the 20 alligator hides that went into making his shoes, while comparing his musical swagger to Tiger Woods’ smooth swing and his ladies-man status to that of Taye Diggs.”
