Adam Snow

By Jack Barnes

Drawing countless comparisons to Southern rap titans like Lil Boosie, Alabama-born Sacramento rapper OMB Peezy is a prodigious talent. Returning for a heart-wrenching and confident street anthem, Peezy reflects on the risks and successes in his life on Pray For Me.” A collaboration with producer Adam Snow, who has worked with the likes of Lil B and Tayyib Ali, “Prey For Me” is an ethereal trap ballad, complete with airy vocal samples and circular piano. The track features an appearance from Gucci Mane, who contributes a typically witty verse: “L.A. with Jefe/CEO the check say/Two mil my neck say/Fly the G8 the next day.” Enjoy this video stream below after the jump.

Premiered by WorldStarHipHop, “Pray For Me” is the first video released by OMB Peezy since the release of Humble Beginnings, his debut project. A collision of the old and new generations of Southern rap, Gucci’s “Pray For Me” is a major endorsement of OMB Peezy, who is attracting plaudits from all over the rap game.

A slap-heavy six-pack produced in full by Grammy-nominated producer Cardo Got Wingz (Kendrick Lamar, Jeezy, Meek Mill), Humble Beginnings is a cinematic and accomplished effort. Telling the story of his abrupt transition from a “kid out the mud” to a budding rap superstar, Humble Beginnings boasts the recent single new single Doin’ Bad,” a collaboration with Baton Rouge’s YoungBoy Never Broke Again, which earned a nod on Zane Lowe‘s Best Songs of the Week and Spotify‘s coveted Most Necessary playlist. Premiered by Complex and featuring an appearance from former touring partner Yhung T.O. of SOB X RBE on the effortlessly funky, mob-influenced opener “Talk My Shit,” Humble Beginnings arrived via Sick Wid It Records/300 Entertainment.

Born in Alabama, the 20-year-old Peezy moved to the west coast when he was 12, developing a reputation as a rap prodigy, building a following on YouTube, and gaining the respect of the new wave of Bay Area artists such as Nef The Pharaoh and legends such as E-40. In the past few months, OMB Peezy started to parlay his grassroots local fanbase into a national following, earning millions of combined streams on his singles like the Noisey-premiered “Pressure,”the Pigeons & Planes-premiered The Hard Way,” and the virally popular hitsWhen I Was Down,” Porch,” and Lay Down,” which Pigeons & Planes listed at #14 in their halftime list of Best Songs of 2017 and found a prominent fan in Wiz Khalifa who vibed to the song in an Instagram story. In July, OMB Peezy earned a mention in the New York Times in advance of his sold out show at NYC’s Webster Hall. Last month, Peezy released Word Of Moutha short documentary chronicling the young rapper’s beginnings and meteoric rise. Peezy recently returned from a tour supporting Detroit artist Tee Grizzley.
