The Respect My Vote! campaign today announced pop culture maven and ‘Dancing with the Stars’ contestant, Amber Rose as the latest celebrity spokesperson. The renowned model and proud mother, actor, activist, entrepreneur, and published author from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has risen to popularity with her controversial yet impactful perspective on women’s issues. Through her not-for-profit organization, the Amber Rose Foundation dedicated to female empowerment and equality, Rose single handedly created the ‘Amber Rose SlutWalk;’ an annual event held in Los Angeles.
On October 1st, ‘SlutWalk’ will take place in an effort to raise awareness for and combat against issues such as sexual violence, victim blaming, derogatory labels and gender inequality. The Respect My Vote! campaign will have a presence at ‘SlutWalk’ to take voter pledges and assist in registering new voters through a pop-up registration station. As a spokesperson, Amber will rally her massive social media influence to drive the message of creating change in the community through the power of the vote in both national and local elections. Fans can pledge to vote via her dedicated campaign page by visiting .
“I am working with the Respect My Vote! campaign and Hip Hop Caucus because I want women to stand up for themselves and make their voice heard in this year’s election,” stated Rose. “Americans are strong, so I want everyone, especially all of my girls out there to please go out and vote; we can’t be afraid to do something that might change our situation for the better and put a stop to things that are unacceptable.”
Respect My Vote! is a national non-partisan Hip Hop culture-based campaign that reaches young voters and communities of color throughout the U.S. The campaign aims to educate the disenfranchised on the importance of voter participation from the local and national levels through celebrity spokespeople, social media influencers, and community leaders.
“It’s very encouraging when celebrity activists like Amber Rosejoin the Respect My Vote! team. Further, we are excited to support the mission of the Amber Rose Slut Walk,” stated Hip Hop Caucus President and CEO, Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Jr. “We continue to partner with those who are passionate about the future and know we can create that change by getting people out and into the voting booth on November 8.”
