This September, Live from the Artists Den premieres its long anticipated 12th TV season nationwide on public television. Watch the new season trailer here. This season features rare moments and special performances by major music talent across R&B, Pop, Country and Alternative Rock genres: John Legend, OneRepublic, Lady Antebellum, and Fleet Foxes. Together, these artists have sold more than 22 million albums worldwide, have over 57 million social media fans, and their videos have been watched over 6 billion times. Artists Den Season 12 is an incredible adventure for music fans as the season moves from a stunning church in Harlem to the mountains of Utah, to a Washington Heights historic theatre and finishes in a 19th century factory in Queens. john legendThe new season premieres with 10-time Grammy Award-winning artist John Legend at Harlem’s historic Riverside Church: in New York Thursday, September 7 at 9:00 p.m. on THIRTEEN, in Los Angeles Saturday, September 9 at 6:30 p.m. on PBS SoCal 2 and nationwide on public television this Fall (check local listings).The episode is a powerful story within the series, uniting an artist and venue both dedicated to using their pulpit to convey a message of justice, hope and peace. The Riverside Church was the site of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic “Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence” speech, and has been described as a “stronghold of activism and political debate” throughout its rich 75-year history.
“I grew up playing in the church, so when I come back to the church, I feel a sense of nostalgia and connection that is really at the core of who I am as an artist. Especially with this album, which I think draws from my gospel roots in a significant way, it means a lot to me to perform here,” said Legend. During the episode, Legend explains his activism in the community and history’s influence on his music, while captivating the audience with performances of his modern-day civil rights-inspired songs, such as “Marching into the Dark,” from his recently released album Darkness and Light, and “Glory.”
OneRepublicOneRepublic descends on the Artists Den stage for an epic show of their greatest hits, as well as new music from their latest release, Oh My My, at Park City Live in Utah. Their set includes fan favorites “Apologize,” “Good Life,” “Counting Stars,” and an electric closing with “If I Lose Myself.” OneRepublic’s lead singer Ryan Tedder reflects on his love of film and the special significance of performing during Sundance Film Festival during the set. “Things like Sundance, they’re necessary to foster great ideas,” Tedder explained. “You need to have venues where you have the ability to grow.”
Lady AntebellumAfter a two-year hiatus from music, the seven-time Grammy Award-winning group Lady Antebellum brings Nashville to Uptown for an unforgettable evening. Selling over 18 million albums, the multi-platinum trio performs at the historic United Palace Theatre in Washington Heights for a crowd of 1400 fans. Surrounded by the rococo detail of the vaudeville theater turned church and cultural center, Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott, and Dave Haywood keep the crowd on their feet for their entire set that covers both their catalog of smash singles (“Need You Now,” “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore”) and songs from their upcoming album, HEART BREAK, even adding a horn section for their funky new single “You Look Good.” Singer Charles Kelley admitted, “We don’t want people to feel like they know what to expect from us. We don’t want to know what to expect from us.”
FLEET FOXESFollowing a six-year hiatus, Grammy-nominated Fleet Foxes returned to the stage just days before the release of their highly anticipated third album, Crack-Up, with a special performance at the Knockdown Center, a magnificent former glass-blowing facility and door factory, in Queens, New York. The mesmerizing concert highlights material from the widely celebrated new record while also looking back to such favorites as “Blue Ridge Mountains” and “Mykonos.” “It’s easier to try things and feel more comfortable,” guitarist and vocalist Skyler Skjelset explained of the time away. Lead singer and guitarist Robin Pecknold added, “I felt like I wanted just a broader range of experience as a person and a musician to draw from in direct and indirect ways, so it seemed like something worth being open-minded about.”
