ART@WAR, a joint venture with Atlantic Records founded by entertainment executive James McMillan, is enjoying early successes with the release of YBN Cordae’s LP, The Lost Boy and the gold certification of YBN: The Mixtape YBN Nahmir, YBN Cordae, and YBN Almighty Jay. This week, The Lost Boy debuts at #8 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and #13 on the Billboard 200 Chart. These early milestones reflect ART@WAR’s commitment to artist development and its collaborative approach with artists, managers, and the Atlantic Records team.
Core YBN members Nahmir, Almighty Jay and Cordae initially connected on Xbox Live and have spawned a national movement comprised of YBN-affiliated artists. Since then, Nahmir and Cordae were selected to be part of the XXL Freshman Class in 2018 and 2019 respectively, and each member is now focusing on their solo projects. Cordae’s debut has garnered critical acclaim; the LA Times declared YBN Cordae “hip-hop’s next great MC;” and The Guardian gives The Lost Boy a glowing 4-Star review. Additionally, Cordae received accolades for his riveting performances on The Tonight Show with Anderson Paak and with HER on The BET Awards last month. The Lost Boy features collaborations with Chance The Rapper, Pusha T, Meek Mill and the legendary Quincy Jones for production. Cordae will kick off a national tour with Logic on October 5, in Vancouver, BC.
YBN Nahmir is headlining a European tour to promote his current single, “F*** It Up,” featuring City Girls and Tyga. Cumulatively, Nahmir’s solo tracks have amassed close to 1 billion streams. He’s slated to release his solo debut in the fall and tour with Young Thug, Polo G and Machine Gun Kelly in October. YBN Almighty Jay is finishing up his solo project while promoting his new single, “Spaceship.”
In addition to YBN, the ART@WAR slate includes Omaha-born and Los Angeles-based “rap singer” SK8, who went from being a Midwest pro basketball hopeful into gold-selling homegrown phenomenon. Amassing millions of streams on his self-released solo material, he built an impressive independent catalog and earned opening spots for Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, and Rae Sremmurd tour dates. During a 2017 studio session with Taylor Gang producer Ricky P, he met Wiz and immediately hit it off, and SK8 locked down management with Taylor Gang Management, cofounded his own imprint, Alignment with James McMillan, and signed to Atlantic Records via McMillan’s ART@WAR joint venture in 2018. Sk8 is currently an opening act on Wiz Khalifa’s Decent Exposure Tour.
Finally, ART@WAR recently added the Memphis native, singer, songwriter and musician Jucee Froot to the roster. Jucee has made a name for herself with a strong social media following and viral videos. Her debut single, “Shake Dat Ass” will be released on DSPs on August 9.
