Sydney-based artist, Manu Crooks, releases his debut EP, mood forever. The EP features production from Miracle and DOPAM!NE, and a guest appearance from Australian vocalist/producer, JOY. Enjoy this audio stream below after the jump.
With mood forever, Manu Crooks presents his debut body of work and “establishes himself as the next hip-hop artist out of Australia to make international waves.” (Pigeons & Planes) From the sultry vibes of “Ridin’” to the hard-hitting flex of “Under Pressure,” Manu’s calm demeanor and defiant confidence are apparent throughout. “I got so much on my plate, never fold under pressure,” Manu raps, aware that he holds the expectations of a continent on his shoulders. This awareness and composure have set Manu apart from his contemporaries, earning him the chance to join Stormzy, YG, and Danny Brown, on their respective Australian tours. Building a dedicated following with his “raw lyricism and seamless flow,” (The Fader) Manu’s influence continues to grow. With his music in heavy rotation on Australia’s Triple J and Zane Lowe on Beats 1, and video for “Everyday” surpassing 1M views, “Manu has been steadily gaining notoriety on a global scale.” (Highsnobiety)
Originally from Ghana but moving to Sydney right before high school, the influence of speaking multiple languages has shaped Manu’s unique accent, “inventive lyricism, and the way his vocalisations work themselves into a beat.” (i-D) Early on in his career yet already viewed as a pioneer in the Australian hip-hop scene, Manu Crooks is bridging hip-hop hemispheres and proving that he “might just be our best hope for Aus hip hop to make a significant impact on the international scene.” (Complex)
