‘Away’ Star Hilary Swank on Oscars New Inclusion Rules and the Legacy of ‘Boys Don’t Cry’

Academy Award winner Hilary Swank sits down with Variety news anchor Audrey Cleo Yap to talk about her Netflix series “Away” and the future of Ram and Emma (SPOILERS).

Swank also looks back on the legacy of “Boys Don’t Cry” and how far representation for trans people and actors have come. Swank won her first Oscar in 2000 for her portrayal of Brandon Teena, a young trans man, forced to live a life on the run as he tries to keep his gendered identity a secret from small town locals.
