Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself?
BankrollShell: I was born in Sasebo Japan, traveled with my parents for a few years. They are both Navy Veterans. At the age of 4 we settled in Jacksonville, Florida. I have a younger sister.
Getmybuzzup: How did you get the name BankrollShell?
BankrollShell: At the time I was known as StunnaBoyShell, but when BankrollFresh passed, I wanted to honor his music by carrying on the name in a sense.
Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?
BankrollShell: The music industry has been a part of my life as long as I can remember. I have always been interested in the entertainment industry, but my mom introduced me to music and it’s been a go ever since.
Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?
BankrollShell: Honestly, I started out wanting to be a Hip Hop Dancer/Choreographer, particularly “Krump & Break Dance” style. I danced in church, school dances, family gatherings, or any chance I had to showcase my talent. I remember watching “You Got Served” and by the end of the day, between my sister and I dancing along and the replay button, we had each move down pack. I felt it was the start of something great. I went as far as to teach her the Tango with my own personal spin on it. We shocked our parents when we performed it. They were speechless, being we were so young, but from that point on, they knew we weren’t just kids playing around, they knew we were serious about wanting to dance. Little did they know we had been talking about writing, singing……I had not yet revealed that I wanted to rap. I was not afraid of them not supporting because they are our biggest supporters, I was more hesitant because I wanted to be able to be different, not just a rhyming poetic rapper, so to speak. I wanted more than just to be on TV showing off gold chains, big expensive cars, and houses. I wanted to be able to tell real stories, one after another, that people could relate to and be inspired by. Although too young to realize it at the time, that a was going to take real-life experiences.
Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your latest single “Better Off”?
BankrollShell: “Better Off” is another story from my catalog I like to call my life’s journey so far. It is a part of the continued story of my album “Blitz’d Emotions”.
Getmybuzzup: When can fans expect the visuals for the first single?
BankrollShell: “Better Off” video release has a tentative scheduled date for November/ December time frame. Please Stay tuned for updates, I don’t want anyone to miss out on this experience.
Getmybuzzup: Any forthcoming project that you’re working on?
BankrollShell: Yes. I am working on a new project that will be just as powerful and inspiring as “Blitz’d Emotions”, but just giving a little more of me as we travel this journey together.
Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?
BankrollShell: My music, my artistry, my drive comes from the strength of witnessing my parents grow over the years. Knowing a dating relationship that only lasted 6 days and now married going on 21 days has inspired me that nothing is impossible. They have ingrained the principles of endurance, integrity, and respect in me. No matter how hard the struggle becomes, I can’t a “quit” in me, no matter how challenging the road to success in any form, I can’t lose sight of what’s important. I can’t lose focus. I have to stay the course. I’m built for this. I am also inspired by legends like Ludacris, Nas, Tupac, Biggie Smalls, and Snoop Dogg.
Getmybuzzup: How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?
BankrollShell: Honestly writing comes naturally when it comes to my songs. They are experiences either I, or someone I know has gone through. The process is a little more complex because now I have to re-live those experiences and memories as I attempt to inspire or let the audience know “hey you are not alone, I can relate and I understand because I’ve been there.”
Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your latest project?
BankrollShell: The concept was to be a voice for this generation. We have so much to say but it falls on deaf ears a lot. The glorification of drugs, guns, and violence is mainstream when it comes to today’s generation of rappers but I am focused on bringing back the dignity in sharing truths and experiences we go through, I’m focused on bringing back the respected hip-hop and rap once had by telling my story through my music and allowing the transparency of those experiences to be felt and shared with my generation of rappers, hopefully inspiring us to better examples and mentors to those watching us. It’s easy for kids to see “BankrollShell” and want to be like him, but it’s a different story to have parents of those kids to see me as someone they want to mentor or inspire their children.
Getmybuzzup: How has Covid impacted your ability to make music?
BankrollShell: COVID-19 has not affected my ability to make music, as far as having music ready to go. Thankfully, I had already recorded so much before this pandemic took place. It has affected time frames for studio time, but I am glad about the changes in reference to sanitizing of the recording equipment ie microphones, and booths. Going in before wasn’t a thought of whether anything was wiped down or not, Now going into the booth, with all sanitizing precautions, it’s more comfortable knowing everything has been wiped down and sanitized.

BankrollShell: I have worked with independent artist Yvng Savo and it was magical. Go check out “Smoke” and “Hardest Thing” on my album Blitz/d Emotions. That whole experience was memorable because we grew up together and neither one of us knew we aspired to be lyricist when we got older. It was a whole vibe when we hit the booth. BankrollShell: Day to day life that we as a generation experience that we go through and sometimes it feels we are overlooked because we are “young”.
Getmybuzzup: What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)
BankrollShell: My music speaks to reality, each one has a different message, and takes you on a different journey. “Blitz’d Emotions” is a prime example of what separates me or make me different. You are not going to get the same vibe from any two songs. They all take you on a different path.
