Roman Protasevich, a blogger who founded Poland-based opposition news outlet Nexta and broadcast footage of huge demonstrations which erupted across Belarus last year, was detained after his flight from Greece to Lithuania was diverted to Minsk by a warplane on the pretext of a bomb threat.
The 26-year-old has now said he is cooperating with investigators and ‘confessing’ to charges of organizing anti-regime protests and denied having health problems in a video being circulated by state TV channels. There had been unconfirmed reports that Protasevich was hospitalized with a heart condition – allegations denied by the Belarus Interior Ministry, which said on Monday that he was being held in a jail in Minsk. Right, Protasevich’s girlfriend Sofia Sapega.
