Bugsy Talks Growing Up in Central Fl, New Single “Who You?” & More [Interview]

By Jack Barnes

Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself?
Bugsy: The name is Bugsy, music artist coming out of Florida. Kissimmee to be exact. I’m outgoing & funny but I can really be a loner at times. I try to stay zoned into my goals & be distraction free.

Getmybuzzup: What’s it like growing up in Central FL.?
Bugsy: Growing up in Kissimmee, Florida was fun and definitely diverse. I would say that I had a normal life, went school graduated high school, I was always very well known in school, such a different lifestyle from living up north.

Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?
Bugsy: Since I was like in 5th grade, I was always attracted to music. I just never really pushed myself & took it seriously until now. The last couple of years were the official beginning.

Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?
Bugsy: Well I was very familiar with music because my dad also made music. I used to go and watch him in the studio, sitting there watching him and analyzing the recording and writing process. or watch him write I would the first person to hear it when he would spit it back to me off that yellow notepad.

Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your sound?
Bugsy: I think it’s a blend of the new wave sound, mixed with south & a decent dash of the up north/east coast sound. It’s an odd recipe but living both down south and up north, it just works out like that I guess.

Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?
Bugsy: There are quite a handful that I do like but as far as the ones that I’ve always gravitated to, I would go with Nicki Minaj, Lil Yachty, Biggie & Fab.

Getmybuzzup: How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?
Bugsy: The beat tells you what to write and the type of feel you wanna give on the song. I’m very picky with beats, I let the beat play over and over again and if I don’t get that spark in the beginning, it’s dead. I listen to a different one and if that’s the one I start writing or freestyle gets right away then just keep going and snap on it lol.

Getmybuzzup: What are you currently working on?
Bugsy: At the moment I’m focused on writing & recording more songs for the catalog, an EP is in the works after I release the 1st mixtape this year.

Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your latest track Who You?!?
Bugsy: Who You is a feel-good song, bouncy & just some fun sarcasm. Pretty much what it’s about not having time for anything basic, I’m too busy doing me, hanging with the crew, avoiding bad energy, people are blowing up my phone & when I pick I’m like WHO YOU?! Lol

Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest project?
Bugsy: Touring is definitely on the to-do list but at the moment it’s all about being in the studio working.

Getmybuzzup: What are must-haves when you’re in the studio working?
Bugsy: Water, lemonade, lots of food and snacks and don’t like too many people in my sessions.

Bugsy: Always be yourself, and don’t worry bout what the next person is doing. Have that tunnel vision and focus on crossing the finish line.

Bugsy Talks Growing Up in Central Fl, New Single "Who You?" & More [Interview]Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists on this project or in the future?
Bugsy: Yes I’m looking forward to collaborating with a different artist in the near future.

Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?
Bugsy: I believe that it may both. I feel the beats I choose to have a vibe that just feels good to move to. The lyrics, the flow & content are crafted witty and I try to always be relevant
and relatable.

Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc..)
Bugsy: I can’t really say there’s a specific thing at all because every day is a lesson. Every track, every bar, and every song gets better and better. The more time you put into your craft, the results will show.

Getmybuzzup: What’s your all-time favorite song?
Bugsy: Sade: By Your Side

Getmybuzzup: In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?
Bugsy: Lil Yachty only because he stayed himself, he’s young doing what he wants to do and he didn’t give up and did care what anyone had to say about him. Not only is he doing music but he also has movie gigs, Target commercials, and Chef Boyardee! I just think he is smart on the moves he makes.

Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?
Bugsy: The youth runs the game right now periodt! It’s a different generation and the access to reach millions of fans have made it easier for Indies. Honestly, it’s not about skills these days and that kind of sucks but at the end of the day, just flow with it and try to stay true to self.

Getmybuzzup: Any dream award shows you hope to one day play at?
Bugsy: Most definitely BET, The Grammys for sure and the Oscars.

Getmybuzzup: What is your main goal as far as music?
Bugsy: Just to be able to express and share with the world something fresh, new and represent more for the females who have talent and deserve a shot.

Getmybuzzup: Who would you say your music relates to the most?
Bugsy: I say my generation, the youth, the young and flashy. I also touch on real situations across the nation that go unheard.

Getmybuzzup: What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)
Bugsy: Hmm, I think that the game is definitely saturated with look-alikes and it’s a catch 22 because that’s what radio wants. I try to do me and stay original but also not losing my ear to the streets.

Getmybuzzup: When you’re not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?
Bugsy: I also do some modeling and styling. So I’m big on fashion and the latest trends that I can wear in photo shoots.

Getmybuzzup: If you could work with any producer who would it be?
Bugsy: Swizz Beats, Dr. Dre, Metro Boomin, and Zaytoven.

Bugsy: To date, I would say it has to be a freestyle video from Kodak Black, the ZeZe Challenge. It was huge on Instagram and I’d never imagined I would get 15K plus views. I know it’s not a major feat but it was nice to see that.

Getmybuzzup: What is your dream venue to perform at?
Bugsy: Madison Square Garden or the Amway Arena in Orlando, FL.

Getmybuzzup: What artist music are you currently a fan of?
Bugsy: I listen to everyone and any type of music but at the moment I’ve been listening to a lot of Comethazine.

Getmybuzzup: What can we expect from you in the future?
Bugsy: Big things, more collabs with other talented artists.

Getmybuzzup: Anything else you wanna add?
Bugsy: Yes, go check out the latest single Who You! Thank you for this opportunity and I’m just humbly grateful for everything.

Getmybuzzup: Where can the fans check out for your music?
Bugsy: It’s on all music platforms right now. Bugsy, Who You.
