Lyric “Yhung” Chanel will be laid to rest on Saturday (March 20) after her two-year battle with brain cancer and anaplastic ependymoma ended in early March when she passed away. The 13-year-old was loved by people on social media who followed her journey — completing four brain surgeries and all. Her mother, Monica D. Valentine, created these accounts for people to see how brave her soldier was during her fight and Chanel would garner over 600,000 followers on Instagram alone. Artists like Trae Tha Truth, Beyoncé, T.I. and Cardi B fell in love with the teen, as well, and often checked in on her, according to her family. She would even starting calling Trae her “uncle.”
Chanel was described as “big-hearted, always kind to strangers and saw beauty in everything.” She loved music and fashion, and was often seen on social dancing and enjoying songs from her favs like Bey. Being that Chanel’s favorite color was blue, the late teen will be laid to rest in a beautiful blue dress. Attendees of the ceremony were asked to wear the color, as well.
Chanel’s favorite phrase to say to friends and family was, “I love you. You know that.” Hopefully, this ceremony will let her know that she was loved right back. Rest in peace, Lyric Chanel.
