“Nomadland” takes home Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards. After winning the night’s crowning achievement, Zhao and producers Peter Spears, Mollye Asher and Dan Janvey spoke with reporters backstage. Together they described the effort of completing and releasing a film during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a lighthearted moment, “Nomadland” star and Best Actress winner Frances McDormand crashes the interview to swap statues with Zhao after receiving the incorrect one.
