Clyde Carson – “S.T.S.A. 2” [Mixtape]

Clyde Carson

By Jack Barnes

Four-and-a-half years since the release of Something to Speak About, Oakland rapper Clyde Carson returns with S.T.S.A. 2. The project was premiered by GoodMusicAllDay, which writes: “A Northern California party rap legend with a string of hits on West Coast airwaves, Clyde Carson‘s music is remarkably resistant to trends.” Enjoy this audio stream below after the jump.

S.T.S.A. 2 is a collection of radio-friendly bangers, painstakingly crafted over a period of years for maximum impact. Featuring hyphy party-starters like Gettin’ To It,” which Stereogum called “a titanic fart-monster of a hyphy track,” the tropical flavored “Bring All Your Friends,” featuring Mozzy, and the XXL-premiered ratchet turn-up anthem “She Ready,” featuring E-40 and produced by DJ Mustard and Las Venus, S.T.S.A. 2 is packed with Bay Area bangers of all stripes and sizes. Featuring appearances from E-40, Mozzy, Keak Da Sneak, YMTK, and 1-O.A.K., as well as production from DJ Mustard, CT Beats, Drew Banga, and others, S.T.S.A. 2 is a songwriting clinic, with several excellent options for inquiring radio programmers.

Born in Berkeley and raised in Oakland, then various neighborhoods in the Bay Area, Clyde represents for the entire region. Clyde earned a basketball scholarship to the local Solano College, but his passions shifted in college from athletics to music. At Solano, Clyde Carson formed The Team, with Kaz Kyzah and Mayne Mannish, a respected hyphy collective with Carson as the lead songwriter. After touring with The Game in 2007 and collaborating with Dr. Dre in 2009, Clyde Carson found his biggest solo success in 2012 with Slow Down,” a massive airplay hit off S.T.S.A. With over 13 million views on YouTube, “Slow Down” was the most played song on Oakland’s KMEL station, and reached number one on Los Angeles’ Power 106. Most recently, Clyde Carson released the Playboy EP, which featured appearances from The Game and August Alsina and production from DJ Mustard. Beyond music, Clyde Carson founded Hyphy Juice, a popular energy drink in the Bay Area. S.T.S.A. 2, distributed by EMPIRE, reaffirms Clyde as one of the most impactful hitmakers on the West Coast–when he resurfaces, people take note.
