Darrelle Revis may have been welcome at Robert Kraft’s home for the Patriots’ Super Bowl ring ceremony, but his mother? Not so much.
Revis couldn’t attend the ceremony, which took place Sunday, due to a prior commitment and had planned on having his mother attend in his stead. His mother flew to Boston on Saturday but learned the same day that the invitation to the party wasn’t transferrable to her (though it’s unclear what happened first), according to ESPN. His mother picked up the star cornerback’s ring from the Patriots offices on Monday, according to the report.
The Patriots apparently wanted to keep the party to players and a plus-one, so it seems that Revis’ mother could have attended as the cornerback’s guest if he had come to the party as well.
It’s all noteworthy because it’s the Jets, the Patriots and Darrelle Revis, and those three things rarely mix without controversy. Given the recent history — that Revis bolted New England to sign a hefty contract with Gang Green and that tampering charges were filed by each team over the cornerback — one has to wonder whether New England was strictly enforcing a party policy or was, in fact, needling a former player.
