Def Jam Recording R&B singer Diveliner releases a new single called “Natalie”. Enjoy this audio stream below after the jump and please share this with friends.
“For every three hundred tracks you receive that sound like the harbingers of doom, there’s one beautiful little diamond in the rough—which is where Diveliner comes in.”
“Diveliner is an L.A. singer/producer making modern pop songs with a grungy edge.”
“Diveliner gets vulnerable at times while singing about near death experiences and how he just wishes he could go back.”
Since his debut single on soundcloud as a San Fernando Valley high schooler, Diveliner has been an enigmatic figure both on the internet and in the music industry. From 2014 through 2018 not much was known to the public about diveliner. All of his music was released exclusively on soundcloud with months and sometimes years spanning between his releases and his social media tended to follow the same pattern. With each single release he would reappear on instagram with dreamy images of himself or photos he had taken on his iPhone juxtaposed by hysterically unruly and inappropriate tweets. After making a splash on social media and soundcloud following each release, diveliner would breathe in his blossoming fanbase and retreat back to his home studio in Crenshaw to continue developing his sound. His fans balanced a strong demand for more content with a firm understanding of diveliner’s process: Although his release schedule wouldn’t adhere to the modern day news cycle, his sonic growth and vision with each new release was powerful enough to wipe away the wait for it. More and more people began asking “what’s next for diveliner?”, and editorials such as Noisey began to ask “Who is Diveliner?” In 2018 all of our questions began to get answered after a major label bidding war resulted in him signing at Def Jam Recordings and catapulting him into the public eye.
Diveliner, known by his friends and family as Ellis Grant, is a 23 year old San Fernando Valley native. He began producing and writing music at the age of 16 and releasing it to critical acclaim at the age of 18. His first releases paid a hearty homage to his first musical loves; indie rock and hip hop. He cites Kanye West and Shlohmo as some of his strongest influences to his early work. After deciding to not attend college and dive head first into the world of music Diveliner moved from the valley to Crenshaw with his girlfriend at the time and began balancing a union job with developing his music. Every diveliner release to date has been written, recorded, produced, mixed, mastered, and engineered in its entirety by Diveliner himself in his apartment. His lyrical progression is evident from songs like “I feel like Britney :),” a whispery trap track drenched in drug use, sexual tension, and surface level flexes to his song “2 hearts,” where he opens his emotional floodgates and shines light on his deepest heartbreak through his painful pop crooning and vulnerable lyrics over hard hitting 808s.
Diveliner takes great pride in his production and engineering, but takes even more pride in his ability to write honest lyrics that shine light on his current state of mind and past. His music grabs you by force and walks you through his drug dealing / scamming youth, impoverished and self-conscious late teen years, and heartbroken and depressed early twenties. As we all continue to try and answer the question, “Who is Diveliner?,” it is evident that he’s been giving us the answer the whole time. The more you listen to his music, the more you realize that he’s not only telling you a story, he’s telling you his truth.
