E-40 & B-Legit ft. JT The 4th – “Fo Sho” [Video]

E-40 & B-Legit

By Jack Barnes

An OG in the game responsible for bringing Bay Area hip-hop to a national audience, E-40 is one of the most successful rappers in history. Sailing over squealing vocal samples, jittery hi-hats, and an earworm-y mob bassline, E-40 joins B-Legit to welcome summertime on “Fo Sho,” his latest single. Cousins and close friends, E-40 and B-Legit have a long history of collaborating, dating back to the late ’80s when the two artists were original members in legendary rap crew The Click.  Enjoy this video stream below after the jump.

Their close relationship has continued through the decades, with the rappers appearing on nearly every one of each other’s projects. Featuring an appearance from singer JT The 4th, the most recent signee to 40’s Sick Wid It Records, “Fo Sho” is an infectious collaboration between the Bay’s old and new school. Flexing his trademark elastic flow and eccentric wordplay, 40 Water is on top form on the new track: “When I was a little youngster I was nosy and curious/I asked a lot of questions and I took life serious/You know my cousins, my kinfolk, my relatives/trippin and trappin and hustlin ever since we was little men.” The video finds the three caballeros living the high life in a NoCal country club, drinking red wine and sipping Sluricane, E-40’s signature mixed cocktail. Released today and available to purchase on iTunes and stream on Spotify, “Fo Sho” is an excellent addition to your Summer BBQ playlists.

Back in 2016, E-40 landed three new albums on the Billboard 200 simultaneously with The D-Boy Rap Diary Books 1 & 2 and the 44-track Deluxe Edition. All three also placed in the top 20 of Billboard’s Indie and R&B/Hip-Hop Charts and reached the top ten of the Rap Chart. The D-Boy Diary earned much of its success from streaming, with key playlist placements, including “Puttin’ In Work” on Spotify’s New Music Friday and “Savage” on the popular Rap Caviar, leading to over 2 million Spotify streams in one week. The album’s success followed a dizzying press tour, including appearances on ESPN’s Jalen and Jacoby and Shade45’s Sway in the Morning, and a revealing Facebook Live session with Mashable. The very same year, E-40 celebrated even more chart success as two singles, “Choices” and “Function,” received Gold certifications from the RIAA. With four decades in the rap game and a flourishing adult beverage empire, E-40 is the ultimate rap elder statesman, teaching his glorious, ever-evolving career in the music business to new artists in the Bay and beyond. Look for E-40 to continue to add to his prolific output with more music in 2017.
