Erick Sermon, aka the “Green-eyed-Bandit”, who blazed the trail of the hip hop genre as part of the group EPMD, today announced plans to collaborate with fans on a Kickstarter campaign.
The campaign will support the new album, GO. The album will feature 11 new tracks plus a bonus single for Kickstarter backers, featuring Erick and some of today’s “dopest acts possible” in his words. Confirmed artists include Pharrell, Method Man, AZ, Redman, Too Short, Keith Murray, Styles P, Ghost Face, Big K.R.I.T, Craig Mack, Mr Cheeks, Devin The Dude, Rockwilder, Rico Barrino, and Kid Capri.
Eight tracks have already been recorded, with another three to follow. One of the new tracks is called “Southern Girl” and is inspired by Sermon’s Mom who grew up in Alabama and Florida. “I like to think that everyone is a Southern girl at heart,” says Sermon.
The album will be released on Sermon’s new independent label, Def Squad Records. “Kickstarter is a great way for the fans to help me build this label from the ground up and put out new great talent like I always used to do,” says Sermon. “To be able to collectively have a house (read “label”) of my own music and let the fans be part of something great.”
Fans will have access to a wide range of rewards, including:
- Bonus single only for Kickstarter backers ($2)
- The digital album ($15)
- Def-Squad tee ($35)
- Two tickets to album release parties in Atlanta, New York, LA, and Chicago ($55)
- The opportunity for fans to have their own beat produced by Erick ($5000)
