Fijimacintosh | “Metallic Withdrawals” [Video]

By Jack Barnes

Only 17-years-old but already a master of candy-coated melodies and a curator of a brightly-colored aesthetic, Ohio riser Fijimacintosh is a prodigious talent to watch. Bringing to life one of the highlights of his recent Satellite Crash mixtape, Fijimacintosh shares the wildly psychedelic video for Metallic Withdrawals.” Perfectly suited to the hypnotic music, which features Fijimacintosh leaning into an unbreakable cadence, accentuated by pitch-shifts and ad-libs, “Metallic Withdrawals” finds Fijimacintosh struggling to escape from a trio of sexy scientists, who use the rapper as a guinea pig in a failed experiment. Featured on WorldStarHipHop, the video finds the young rapper in a dark room, illuminated by glowing paint and infrared light. “Metallic Withdrawals” follows the equally haunting video for Greatful Alive, I Could’ve Died,” which has over 156,000 YouTube views since its release in May, and the colorful and trippy video for Wintertime Nights,” which Complex premiered in March. Enjoy this video stream below after the jump and please share this with friends.

“The idea behind the ‘Metallic Withdrawals’ video is that I’m an experiment gone bad and I become a drug that women can’t resist,” explains Fijimacintosh. “Like with my music–once you hear it you can’t resist listening to it everyday. It’s like a drug. The song was inspired by Lil Peep’s album Come Over When You’re Sober.”

Spinning saccharine melodies over shimmering and atmospheric production, Fiji showcases a competitive songwriting ability. Floating over beats from Go GrizzlyCassius Jay, Charlie Handsome, Deko, Pooh, and others, Fiji captivates over the length of the tape’s ten tracks, including highlight Nocturnal Exclipse,” a swirling and wavy new single, premiered earlier by ELEVATOR. The culmination of momentum created by singles Millennium,” featuring Kid Trunks, which has over 767k plays on SoundCloud, Satellite Crash is a promising portrait of a blossoming artist, as Fiji mutates his style through each infectious track. Featuring appearances from Robb Bank$, A1 Billionaire, SwagHollywood, and CashonlySatellite Crash racked up nearly 1.8 million spins on SoundCloud since its release in March. The talented teenager was recently the subject of a short profile in XXL’s The Break Presents series and will show off his unique aesthetic in upcoming opening dates for the likes of Comethazine and Yung Bans.

Upcoming Tour Dates:

July 7: Denver, CO – Cervantes (w/Comethazine)
July 20: Santa Ana, CA – Constellation Room (w/Comethazine)
August 4: Seattle, WA – Neumos (w/Yung Bans)
