“Honestly it’s a dream come true,” says Flipp Dinero about his Double Platinum milestone. “I always envisioned myself having a plaque and I never knew it would get this big. I can’t wait for the world to hear what else I have. To celebrate, I’m gonna take my moms out to eat, maybe buy my dad a new car.”
A teasingly catchy single with a playground chant chorus, an earwormy, flute-filled instrumental, and an achingly relatable central conceit, Flipp Dinero‘s “Leave Me Alone” is one of the biggest rap hits of the past year. Reaching yet another milestone in its ultra-successful trajectory, “Leave Me Alone” just earned a Double-Platinum certificatio
A slow-burning viral hit released in March 2018, “Leave Me Alone” started its rapid ascent when it caught the ear of then-New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who shared a clip of himself dancing to the track. Since then, “Leave Me Alone” grew into one of the biggest hits in America–generating over 500 million streams, including 277 million streams on Spotify and 120 million views on YouTube. The song peaked in the top five of the Hip-Hop/R&B airplay charts and reached the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100. Flipp performed the track on national television at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in October and on a January episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Over a year since its release, “Leave Me Alone” still racks up over 500k streams per day on all services.
Though most artists would kill to have a hit that resonates like “Leave Me Alone,” the song is only the beginning for Flipp Dinero. The Brooklyn-born rapper followed up the massive hit with the comparatively low-key, but insidiously catchy “Feelin Like,” which has more than 9 million plays on Spotify. Most recently, Flipp Dinero teamed up with Memphis hitmaker Tay Keith, the man behind “Look Alive” and “Sicko Mode,” for two new singles: “‘Not Too Many” and “If I Tell You.” An iridescent new song for the summer, “If I Tell You” is a sweet and confident love song, buoyed by Tay Keith’s beat. Dominated by cloudy synths and rubbery bass, “Not Too Many” finds Flipp adopting a triplet flow and bragging about his insatiable thirst for success. “If I Tell You” has accumulated nearly 3 million streams to date and was the number one most added song at urban radio last week. Both songs feature prominently in the Most Necessary playlist, while “If I Tell You” also made its way to the Who We Be and Signed XOXO playlists. Stay tuned for a new project from Flipp, the follow-up to 2017’s successful The Guala Way EP, coming later in 2019.
Says Flipp about “If I Tell You”: “I feel like it’s nothing but a vibe and it’s definitely my second ‘Leave Me Alone,’ because of the impact the new song is having. ‘If I Tell You’ is really taking off and I’m happy that I am making music that the world loves.”
