On lead single “Falling Higher,” a steady beat simmers as Gaidaa’s voice stretches from laidback verses into a falsetto-driven hook illuminating the scope of her scorching signature style and laying the foundation for her debut project. The soulful single received immediate praise from key tastemakers like COLORS who described it as “groove-inflected and magical” and Pitchfork who proclaimed the song, “immediately establishes an irresistible groove.”
Overture also includes standout track “Stranger” featuring acclaimed Chicago rapper Saba and renowned Dutch producer Jarreau Vandal as well as Gaidaa’s breakthrough single “Morning Blue” – a captivating release that resulted in a debut COLORS performance.
On the release of her debut EP, Gaidaa shares, “To me ‘Overture’ is not only my introduction to the world, but essentially my reintroduction to myself, my rediscovery and re-creation of Gaidaa. It’s about realizing that we are far more complex and hold more depth than we think. ‘Overture’ Is the foundation to something more substantial; the beginning of everything that is yet to come and yet to be learned. Gaidaa meeting Gaidaa.”
Reaffirming her confident and bold demeanor as a 2020 artist to watch, Gaidaa’s Overture EP serves as a must-listen debut that showcases her unique presence as an undeniable new talent of today.
Netherlands-based Sudanese singer and songwriter Gaidaa accesses soul in its purest form through organic R&B punctuated by acoustic instrumentation and lyrics laced with raw vulnerability. Growing up between The Netherlands and Sudan, Gaidaa’s Kehlani cover caught the attention of renowned Dutch producer / artist Full Crate and together they cooked up “A Storm On A Summer’s Day,” which amassed nearly 10 million total streams to date.
Balancing schooling with her recently launched music career, Gaidaa dove headfirst into writing, recording and touring. In 2019, COLORS invited her to record “Morning Blue” at their studio. The title referenced the #BlueForSudan campaign, encouraging social media users to change their profile pictures to blue in solidarity with Sudan, and in honor of a protesting victim who favored the color steel blue. On its heels, “I Like Trouble” quickly crossed 200K Spotify streams as The FADER dubbed it a “Trojan Horse for disobedience.”
