The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has announced $300,000 in donations to organizations helping those impacted by the recent mass shooting and current wildfires in California.

“From a devastating massacre in Thousand Oaks a week ago, to blazing wildfires that are still tearing through our state, it is times like this when the community needs to come together and support one another,” said Meher Tatna, President of the HFPA. “This is why the HFPA is making donations to help the victims and their loved ones who have been impacted, and to support the selfless work of our first responders.”

The donations include:

  • $100,000 to the Ventura County Community Foundation which has set up two funds to help the victims of the Hill and Woolsey fires, as well as the victims’ families of the Thousand Oaks mass shooting;
  • $100,000 to the California Fire Foundation’s Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency (SAVE) program which enables firefighters on the frontlines to distribute prepaid debit cards to help victims get through the first hours after losing their homes and possessions;
  • $50,000 to the California Fire Foundation to help provide emotional and financial assistance to firefighters, the communities they protect, and families of fallen firefighters including educational scholarships to their children; and
  • $50,000 to the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund which helps provide long-term recovery efforts to those impacted by the fires.

About the Hollywood Foreign Press Association

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) was founded in 1943 as the Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association (HFCA) by a group of entertainment journalists representing world media in Hollywood, who realized the need to unite and organize to gain the recognition and access to studios and talent accorded to the domestic press. All qualified journalists were accepted, with the bold goal of “Unity Without Discrimination of Religion or Race.” A year later, the HFCA created the Golden Globe Awards which, to this day, the entire membership selects, votes on and awards every year for outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television. This year marked the 75th anniversary of the Golden Globe Awards. Members of the HFPA represent 56 countries with a combined readership of 250 million in some of the world’s most respected publications. Each year, the organization holds the third most watched awards show on television, the Golden Globe® Awards, which has enabled the organization to donate more than $33 million to 80 entertainment-related charities, scholarship programs and humanitarian efforts over the last 25 years.
