How to Listen to Turntables in Your RV

When you own an RV, you have the luxury of moving from one place to another without forgoing some of the comforts of your home. Given this, you may want to take your comfort to the next level by adding turntables to your RV. Unfortunately, lots of RVs are not naturally made to accommodate turntables. Nonetheless, you can listen to portable turntables in your RV by taking a few steps.

So, in this article, we will explain how you can connect turntables to your RV and listen to them.

Prepare your phono preamp

The first thing you need to do is to prepare your phono preamp. Basically, a phono preamp is an important component that can be used for connecting portable turntables to the audio receivers inside your RV and other places.

In general, a phono preamp can be found in different places. Firstly, it may be inside the audio receiver of your RV, but some audio receivers may not have it. Otherwise, some turntables come with phono preamps. However, if a phono preamp is not found in your turntable or RV’s audio receiver, you can buy a separate box with a phono preamp.

  • If you are using a separate box with a phono preamp

Provided that neither the turntable nor audio receiver has a phono preamp, get a separate box that has a phono preamp. You should get started by plugging the audio cable of your turntable into the input of the phono preamp box. Afterward, use another cable to connect the audio output of your phono preamp box to the audio input of the RV’s audio receiver.

  • If the phono preamp is in the audio receiver

Here, you will need to plug connect the audio signal cable of a turntable to the phono’s input in the audio receiver of your RV. Make sure the cable is in good condition as any issue will it can lead to a humming sound from the turntable.

  • If the turntable has a phono preamp

If your turntable comes with a phono preamp but the receiver doesn’t have it, you should connect the audio signal cable of your turntable to the analog audio inputs of the audio receiver. After this, you can just listen to great music from your turntables.

However, if both the turntable and audio receiver have phono preamps, you should consider using only one of the phono preamps. As long as the chosen preamp is good, you are bound to have a great time as you listen to turntables in your RV.

It is worthwhile to note that some advanced turntables come with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth systems. Such turntables are usually easier and quicker to connect to the audio receiver of your RV. Nevertheless, these sophisticated turntables tend to be more expensive than regular ones.

Put your turntable in a stable part

When you are on the go, the vinyl records in your turntables may skip. This can make it difficult for you to enjoy the sounds you are listening to in your RV. To avoid this issue, you should look for a place that is stable in your RV. Then, you have to put your turntable there.
