I still love H.E.R.
By Jack Barnes
Ever since I was a teenager and heavily involved in the Hip Hop Scene, I’ve been making my own shirts. Simply because women always get shorthanded when it comes to Hip Hop merchandise. I wanted clothes that would not only represent me and my love for the culture, but would also fit the way that men’s shirts just can’t.
This year I finally took the step from spray painting “Dilla” on Tees to professionally developing a line that resonates with both women and men. It was important to me to come up with designs that empower us and also play with the stereotypes we as women face in hip hop.
In collaboration with the Berlin based clothing label Tonklamotten and with the help of an amazing female illustrator from Cali (@nanlibinvasion) who turned my ideas into art, I dropped a first collection of shirts and leggings which has been happily received by female hip hop heads across the globe.
