More about ilham
With each step she takes in her career, ilham redefines what it means to be a kid from the projects. “A lot of people are under the impression that if you’re from the projects, you’re essentially trapped and won’t do much with your life. But that’s complete b-s. We can dream big and those who don’t believe can step to the side. No one should feel inferior because of their zip code.”
ilham takes her experiences as well as others she’s observed-both good and bad- and displays it in her music. Back in 2018, she unveiled her first full-length EP, 41-10. With limited resources, ilham found almost every beat off of YouTube and penned every lyric on her own, with her soft, syrupy voice taking over each track. Post-release, she gained millions of streams on numerous streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and Soundcloud, as well as tens of thousands of followers and new fans. Thematically, 41-10 touched on relationships and the high and low points of love. Staple tracks on this project include the Arin Ray-assisted “cycle of games,” “i don’t wanna be with you no more” and “last night” featuring New York rapper Dave East.
As she’s risen in notoriety, ilham has continued to release relatable music. Her latest release, titled ‘with time” – which featured production from frequent Jhene Aiko and Miguel collaborators The Fisticuffs – amassed enough attention to make the project peak at #1 on the R&B iTunes charts, and 3x on Billboard as an unsigned artist. She’s been featured on prominent sites frequently such as The Fader, HarpersBazaar, NPR, Essence, HypeBeast, Office Magazine, Flaunt, PREME and many more. ilham has also received numerous editorial placements on major playlists on all streaming platforms – as well as Spotify a playlist cover, multiple New Music Fridays, a TIDAL RISING feature, and more.
“The only saving grace for your ego is the baby-like quality of Ilham’s voice, which softens the blow of how fed up she is.” – Noisey
“…journeying from the same Queensbridge projects as Nas himself, her career has carried her from not only New York to LA, but additionally, pretty damn far up the charts.” – Office Magazine
