New York-based singer Isa Marina drops new video “No Grey” #NoGrey [Music Video]

By Jack Barnes

New York-based singer Isa Marina releases a music video for “No Grey,” her new autobiographical track about indecision and transparency in relationships. She tells of the frustration of being in a relationship where the other person doesn’t know what they want. She proclaims that for the relationship to work, things have to be clear and black and white and there has to be “No Grey.” The video got its first look yesterday at Earmilk who called the track an “upbeat love-laden single.” Enjoy this video stream below after the jump and please share this with friends.

Isa Marina explains her tumultuous relationship; “I fell into your stereotypical millennial ‘situation- ship’. On and off and back and forth; it was not for me. I needed to get out of the grey area that I found myself in for my own sanity, and I did. He never gave me the concrete answer I was looking for, but his silence told me everything I needed to know. I decided to move on and remain patient for the love and commitment I knew I truly deserved and wanted.”

“No Grey” implements an afrobeat twist to R&B and demonstrates Isa Marina’s close relationship with her Afro-Latin roots. Her R&B vocal style meshes seamlessly with the drumming afrobeat. The track is a lively, danceable fusion of genres and a celebration of the melting pot of cultures that Isa Marina grew up within the Bronx.

The video was directed by Stack Moses, who is most known for his work French Montana. The video was filmed in Isa’s hometown of Norwood in The Bronx. “We wanted to keep the music video sleek and simple,” says Isa about the video, “really bring the message home of breaking free”/getting out of the grey, with colors and interactions between the ‘characters’ in the music video.”

At age 9, Isa Marina taught herself chords to No Doubt’s Tragic Kingdom. This was followed by multiple local talent shows and the development of a presence in musical theater and choral groups. At 14, she was so inspired by Maria Calla’s performance in Puccini’s Tosca that she enrolled at The Marianela Sanchez School of Music in the Dominican Republic. There, she was classically trained as a Dramatic Soprano by renowned opera singer Marianela Sanchez. Upon graduation, she returned to New York to pursue a career in contemporary pop music.

Talent runs in Isa’s family, her great-grandmother is a famous Cuban actress and vocalist Isaura Mendoza. Isa Marina has quickly followed her grandmother’s footsteps, as she is already a celebrated singer-songwriter and model. She is often compared to Alicia Keys, Selena, and Aaliyah.

Isa was invited to compete on  MTV’s TRL, for the show’s ‘Rock the Mic’ competition hosted by Keyshia Cole and won. She has also collaborated with Tidal when she was invited as a guest on popular Latin online personality, La Bella Chanel’s show: ‘Ayudame Chanel’.

Isa is currently working on a new project to follow her sophomore EP Mirrors Volume I, so keep your eyes and ears open!
