Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself?
J-Hen: I’m what you would describe as an easy to get along with, let’s make this work, if not, I’m moving on type of guy. I don’t have time for drama and I don’t really like confrontation. I’m the type of person that likes to get things done but it has to be right. No half stepping. I like doing music and I believe that’s what I was born to do. To put it simply, I like to entertain people.
Getmybuzzup: How did you come up with the name J-Hen?
J-Hen: My high school friends actually gave me that name. When I first started doing music with my friends, one of them started calling me Hen because my last name is Henry. My first name is James so I added the J to give it more flare. Thus, J-Hen was created.
Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?
J-Hen: I’ve been in the music industry for about 10 years now. I have been doing R&B /Pop music for the last 6 years, and prior to that I was rapping.
Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?
J-Hen: My passion for music first began at an early age. I discovered my love for singing and music in general when I was introduced to Michael Jackson‘s and James Brown‘s music. It was their ability to wow the crowds with their voices, music and dancing that appealed to me. It was during my middle school years that I taught myself how to write my own songs. I formed a rap group with a couple of friends during high school and soon after I fused the concept of rapping with singing and that’s when I began to write, produce, and record music! Also during this time, I and a few of my friends released our first LP which included tracks of me singing. It was after this LP that I decided to switch over to R&B and I’ve been writing and producing music ever since.
Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your sound?
J-Hen: I have my own unique sound that I create from my heart about what I feel and from experiences I’ve gained from those feelings. I try to ease listeners into the sensual and hot soulful grooves of my music by creating sultry images that the listeners can actually relate to. The contagious hooks and playful lyrics of my music will stay etched in the listener’s mind long after the tracks have stopped spinning. Listeners will definitely be pulled in by my sassy style and tenacious lyrics.
Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?
J-Hen: I grew up listening to such idols as Michael Jackson, Timbaland, Usher, and Prince as well as James Brown and Ginuwine. These were all inspirations behind my music.
Getmybuzzup: What are you currently working on?
J-Hen: I am currently working on a new track that will also include a music video. This single and video will be even better than anything I’ve released before.
Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your latest track “Gypsy Girl”?
J-Hen: My latest project is about a guy whose car breaks down on a dirt road and he goes to an isolated house to use the phone. He finds the girl there to be enchanting like a gypsy and she appears to cast a spell on him. I later wake up in class to find that it was only a dream and the girl sitting next to me is the gypsy girl. This visual brings to life mystery and charm.
Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest project?
J-Hen: Although touring would be great, I have no immediate plans to do so right now. I’m more focused on creating more great music so that I will have a great product to take out on the road when I do start touring. However, if the right opportunity comes on along, I will definitely consider it.
Getmybuzzup: What did you buy with your first check off music?
J-Hen: With my first check from my music, I reinvested it into more studio and production time.
Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?
J-Hen: Someone once told me that to stay relevant in the music business you have to keep God First, stay consistent, stay positive, keep positive people around you, stay focused and keep pushing, and not to ever give up until I had achieved my dream.
Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists on this project or in the future?
J-Hen: Yes, I do plan to collaborate with a few other artists on my next project. I believe in supporting other artists on their projects as well.
Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?
J-Hen: I think the contagious hooks and playful lyrics of my music will stay etched in the listener’s mind long after the tracks have stopped spinning. But I also believe that no music is complete without an incredible beat behind it.

He is someone that has his own style of music, style of dance and style of dress. I admire Bruno Mars because he’s doing exactly what he wants and is winning.

Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?
