North Chicago rapper J.R. Donato shows us a glimpse of what life’s like as one of Taylor Gang’s youngest artists. Taking us through his neighborhood and showing us his favorite spots in the city, J.R. Donato and his homies have plenty of love for their hometown while also teaming up with fellow Taylor Gang rapper Berner in the studio and hitting the stage on tour. J.R. Donato is coming off the release of his Fast Money & Freedom EP, which is available for free download via DatPiff and streaming on Spotify. “What I really want to do with this Fast Money & Freedom project is to make a better connection with my fans,” J.R. Donato says in the vlog. “Every time a person becomes a fan it’s usually because some type of connection because they can feel what you’re saying. And that’s what I want – I want people to feel what I’m saying.” Enjoy this video stream below after the jump.
“[J.R. Donato] uses his voice and flow in unique ways that only someone who’s been writing for close to a decade could pull off,” said HotNewHipHop, acknowledging J.R. Donato’s history. In high school, J.R. Donato toured regionally with local legend Twista, before later teaming up with Wiz Khalifa on the second Under the Influence tour. In the lead up to Fast Money & Freedom, “I Suppose” found J.R. Donato couch-surfing through the Chi, while he partied with some friends in the carefree video for “Life So Sweet,” which debuted via HipHopDX. Additionally, audio singles “Make It Count” and theGoodMusicAllDay-premiered “Mad At Me” showcased Donato embracing the opportunities that he’s encountered in his nearly ten year rap career while paying no mind to the people that’ve hated along the way. Produced in-full by Sledgren, Fast Money & Freedom has a consistently hazy, laid back vibe that matches Donato’s breezy, charismatic presence on the mic.
