Songwriter Jake Tuvek Talks New Single, Inspirations & More [Interview]

Songwriter Jake Tuvek Talks New Single

Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself?

Jake Tuvek: I love nature. It’s something that calms me down a lot. Music is my passion and it is something that I invest my time in but nature is where I truly find solace.

Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?

Jake Tuvek: I am very new to the music industry. I’ve been pushing and writing for 12 years but as far as actually being involved in a way that I am now I’m very new. I love it. It’s weird and confusing but I love it.

Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?

Jake Tuvek: I met a guy named Chad who lived down the street from me, were still best friends, and he taught me some guitar stuff and matched my passion and we just jammed all the time. It was sick.

Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your latest single?

Jake Tuvek: It has a melancholy feel to it. It’s like a blend of country and hip hop however the hell that happened. With a little bit of a reggae flare toward the halfway point of the song.

Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

Jake Tuvek: Russ, Ed Sheeran, Tash Sultana. I love them and their work ethics.

Getmybuzzup: How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?

Jake Tuvek: I just assess how I feel and put it into words that are honest and truly reflect the vibe that I was swimming in at the time.

Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your forthcoming project?

Jake Tuvek: I had lost my brother a few years ago, and it is about wishing I did more when he was here.

Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest single?

Jake Tuvek:  Covid ): nope

Getmybuzzup: What did you buy with your first check off music?

Jake Tuvek: I don’t remember exactly but I either bought weed or a guitar pedal.

Getmybuzzup: What are must-haves when you’re in the studio working?

Jake Tuvek: Silence. Sweet silence. I want to be the only one in a 300-foot radius that’s making noise.

Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

Jake Tuvek: Never stop working.

Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists on this forthcoming project or in the future?

Jake Tuvek: Not currently. No plans are set yet. But I would love to at some point.

Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?

Jake Tuvek: The lyrical flow for sure. That was something that came to me a lot easier than developing the beat. But, I am getting better at my best making.

Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc..)

Jake Tuvek: I definitely need to work on my performance. I can sing, I can play guitar, it’s not going to be a bad performance but I need to work on how comfortable I am when playing.

Getmybuzzup: What’s your all-time favorite song?

Jake Tuvek: Well, right now it’s “Carry On” by Bobby Caldwell. It will change soon.

Getmybuzzup: What was the last album you listened to?

Jake Tuvek: “Caress your soul” by Sticky Fingers

Getmybuzzup: In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?

Jake Tuvek: No one. My music is brand new. I often hear my music and wonder if it’s good because I have literally no other artist to compare myself to and get affirmation that it’s fire. But people seem to like it, and I seem to like it most of the time so I think it’s alright.

Getmybuzzup: Who has been some of your favorite artists that you’ve been able to work with?

Jake Tuvek: Nick Anthony. He is a producer in Philly and he is a production genius. What an amazing producer. Listen to his music!

Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?

Jake Tuvek: I think right now is a tough time for artists. But we will bounce back.

Getmybuzzup: Any dream award shows you hope to one day play at?

Jake Tuvek: House Of Blues Boston. I’ve seen a lot of shows there and it would be wicked to jam that stage.

Getmybuzzup: What is your main goal as far as music?

Jake Tuvek: To pay my bills. That’s it. Everything else is a plus.

Getmybuzzup: Who would you say your music relates to the most?

Jake Tuvek: People with depression. I’ve been told by people who have depression that my music helps them a lot and makes them feel less alone.

Getmybuzzup: What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)

Jake Tuvek: I would say probably the fact that I have absolutely zero guidelines to what I’m doing. I don’t follow trends much and I don’t do anything in my music just because it’s popular. I love my individuality and I believe my music speaks to that.

Getmybuzzup: When you’re not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?

Jake Tuvek: I like to cook, read books, play card games, and play with dogs.

Getmybuzzup: If you could work with any producer who would it be?

Jake Tuvek: I would work with Taylor Swift’s producer. He is very versatile in his skills for making songs.

Getmybuzzup: What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?

Jake Tuvek: Gaining momentum on my Spotify. That has been really cool to see.

Getmybuzzup: What is your dream venue to perform at?

Jake Tuvek: I have two. House of Blues Boston and Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Getmybuzzup: What artist music are you currently a fan of?

Jake Tuvek: Bobby Caldwell. I listen to so much Bobby right now.

Getmybuzzup: When performing live what are some of the things you do to get the crowd involved?

Jake Tuvek: I tell stories. My words are my strong suit so I like to talk about things that are relevant to the music I’m playing.

Getmybuzzup: When performing live and the crowd is singing along how does that energy make you feel?

Jake Tuvek: It feels surreal. It’s only happened once to me at a show I did with a previous band and it was super dope. Definitely chasing that dragon for sure.

Getmybuzzup: What’s the name of the last book you read and by whom?

Jake Tuvek: Currently reading Washington Black by Esi Edugyan.

Getmybuzzup: What’s your favorite sports team and why?

Jake Tuvek: I don’t follow sports.

Getmybuzzup: Who’s your favorite actor or actress and their best movie?

Jake Tuvek: My favorite actor would probably be Anya Joy Taylor at the moment. I absolutely loved the Queen’s Gambit.

Getmybuzzup: What can we expect from you in the future?

Jake Tuvek: Lots and lots of music. Lots of music.

Getmybuzzup: Anything else you wanna add?

Jake Tuvek: Thank you for having me!

I Caught U Slippin
