Jamall Joseph Talks New EP “Spaceships on Drugs”, his Inspirations & More [Interview]

By Jack Barnes

Getmybuzzup: How Long Have You Been In The Music Industry?

Jamall Joseph: 17 Years

Getmybuzzup: How Did You Get Started in the first Place?

Jamall Joseph: I always loved music and poetry. So I was always writing poems for girls I liked and they formed into songs.

Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your sound?

Jamall Joseph: Well I am often compared to Kanye West, I’m very eclectic and not scared to venture off into different genres I’m usually classified as hip hop but I think I deserve to my own genre. Lol.

Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

Jamall Joseph: I am heavily influenced by Jay Z & Sean Combs they both are my ideals as businessmen in the industry.

Getmybuzzup: How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?

Jamall Joseph: Well when I get into the studio with Rob E we just vibe at our feelings or situations one of us maybe going through at that moment.

Getmybuzzup: What are you currently working on?

Jamall Joseph: Well I just finished my EP “Spaceships on Drug“ with Mumble Franco that comes out this month, I’m working on another movie “Cool Kids 2“ and my 5th book “Chasing Joseph 2“. Also I just launched my own distribution company www.IRockDistro.com and my music streaming service I Rock Music available on google play and app store.

Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your latest song or project?

Jamall Joseph: “Spaceships on Drug“ was a very eclectic moment for me to collaborate with an unknown artist for one but the sound is very interesting so I would say it’s basically mumble rap, you know I kind of just got in the studio with Mumble Franco and we made some high energy great songs, I can’t wait for the world to hear it, it will be my 5th project in 6 months.

Getmybuzzup: How difficult was it dropping four projects in 2018?

Jamall Joseph: It wasn’t difficult at all I have a really great team of artist around me and we just vibe, but I will say my first album “Trails and Tribulation“ was a difficult project because i was revealing that real emotional side of me and expressing my feelings for my girl and past relationships and current relationships.

Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest project?

Jamall Joseph: Yes me and Mumble Franco have been in talks about doing a 15 city tour in 2019.

Jamall Joseph Talks New EP "Spaceships on Drugs", his Inspirations & More [Interview]Getmybuzzup: What did you buy with your first check off music?

Jamall Joseph: I actually recently just got my very first check and I purchased a 2015 Red Freightliner Big Rig.

Getmybuzzup: What are must haves when you’re in the studio working?

Jamall Joseph: Formula One Water and Hot Ginger Tea.

Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

Jamall Joseph: LOL! Get everything in writing.

Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists on this project or in the future?

Jamall Joseph: Well on my first album and single “You and Me“ Feat. Marques Houston did really well so i’m hoping we can reconnect and do a EP together I think it would be great for our fans and just to bring that old school sound back and message promoting LOVE.

Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?

Jamall Joseph: I think it’s enjoyed by all the combinations, but for sake of argument my album “Last Party on Earth“ was more of a beat energy album but then I came back with “Bring The Boom Back“ which was more lyrical and old school sounding production with a new school twist. So that answer is kind of hard to answer I guess we would have to let the fans answer that question. Lol

Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career?

Jamall Joseph: I’m very confident in myself, but I can say that I am working on projecting my voice better and delivery better, but of course for argument sake I would say I am the best rapper alive and there is no one better. I feel I am the king in my own world looking to take over new territory ya dig lol I’m a lion in the jungle.

Getmybuzzup: What goes into the process of producing a movie and how did you get started?

Jamall Joseph: Firstly you need a good concept 2nd a great script and great actors, and good vibes with a great team willing to do what it takes to make the movie a success.

Getmybuzzup: How do you get prepared for an acting role?

Jamall Joseph: I just do it let it be natural so your audience can just fall right into you, I read a lot of movie scripts as well and practice in my home theater.

Getmybuzzup: What’s your all-time favorite song?

Jamall Joseph: “Picasso“ from my album “Picasso“.

Getmybuzzup: In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?

Jamall Joseph: Most Def Kanye West. He is a musical genius and I hope one day we can work together I believe that when it comes to making eclectic music Kanye is god with a little “g”. Outside of his political career Kanye West is just amazing.

Getmybuzzup: Who have been some of your favorite artists that you’ve been able to work with?

Jamall Joseph: Marques Houston and Nic Jackson who which I signed to I Rock Music Inc.

Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?

Jamall Joseph: This is a simple but deep question because I feel music is in a dangerous ludicrous, ridiculous moment of time. Like the music that these kids like is just ludicrous, but I do feel like artist such as J Cole, Kanye West, Jay Z, Nas , KRS ONE, type style of music is coming back and that’s why I will never switch what I do or how I do it because I have faith that this current generation of artist will step it up. We need more B.I.G and Tupac’s and less Young Thug’s.

Getmybuzzup: Any dream award shows you hope to play at one day?

Jamall Joseph: BET Awards

Getmybuzzup: What is your main goal as far as music?

Jamall Joseph: My main goal is just to inspire others to be great and become a great music executive in this industry. I live and breathe entertainment I have no limits there is no limits for me.

Getmybuzzup: Who would you say your music relates to the most?

Jamall Joseph: I would say 25 to 60 depending on which album you are listening too.

Getmybuzzup: What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)

Jamall Joseph: I believe that I am very different because I am not scared to push the envelope with it comes to my creativity. I just over all a different type of artist but mostly i’m all business when it comes to this music I play no games when it come to the cashier checks my friend lol.

Getmybuzzup: When you’re not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?

Jamall Joseph: I like to read books, travel around the world and I love Beethoven music when I am alone and just relaxing my brain.

Getmybuzzup: If you could work with any producer who would it be?

Jamall Joseph: Well he is sort of 50/50 but I would say Kanye West.

Getmybuzzup: What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?

Jamall Joseph: Being the executive producer of the Cool Kids Movie.

Getmybuzzup: What is your dream venue to perform at?

Jamall Joseph: The Staple Center.

Getmybuzzup: What artist music are you currently a fan of?

Jamall Joseph: Jay Z

Getmybuzzup: When performing live what are some of the things you do to get the crowd involved?

Jamall Joseph: I give away products from my company such as I Rock Music Studio One Headphones.

Getmybuzzup: When performing live and the crowd is singing along how does that energy make you feel?

Jamall Joseph: It makes me go crazy!

Getmybuzzup: What’s the name of the last book you read and by whom?

Jamall Joseph: 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene.

Getmybuzzup: What can we expect from you in the future?

Jamall Joseph: Jan 28th “Spaceships on Drug“.

Getmybuzzup: Anything else you wanna add?

Jamall Joseph: No Sir, but this has been a really great interview.

Getmybuzzup: Where can the fans check out for your music?
