(28 Jun 2021) STARS TALK ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BET AWARDS
Stars attending Sunday’s (27 JUNE 2021) BET Awards spoke on the red carpet about the importance of the award show which honors the best in Black entertainment and sports from the previous year.
“The BET Awards is for us. It’s a platform where we can celebrate each other and celebrate us which we rarely get to do and certain platforms don’t celebrate us enough,” said H.E.R.
‘This is a night of Black excellence,” added Eva Marcille, a model, actor and TV personality. “It’s something we look forward to. It’s one of the few nights we get to really magnify who we are as African Americans and in this industry that’s not glorified like from sports to music to acting to everything and this is the night of that celebration.”
“We get to see ourselves. We get to see ourselves on TV, we get to see ourselves in our arts, and we see ourselves excel,” said Jazmine Sullivan.
Last year’s BET Awards was the first awards show to air during the pandemic. It was a critical success and featured highly produced and well-crafted pre-taped performances, with some centered around the Black experience highlighted by the Black Lives Matter movement, civil rights and the lives of those lost because of police officers, including George Floyd.
