Noisey is debuting the latest episode of New Legends, the series profiling this generation’s music legends in the making. Presented by Old Spice, the video follows Jazz Cartier as he reveals the background behind his first and only rap name and being exposed to the fundamentals of hip hop at a very young age. Enjoy this video stream below after the jump.

In this episode, Jazz Cartier talks about the difficulty of meeting others, considering the fact that during his childhood he managed to move thirteen times. In school Jazz Cartier was on the shy side and never disclosed information about his ability to rap. During his first freestyle he closed his eyes in response to nerves, but his natural talent gained him mass popularity. Cartier graduated in 2012 and had plans to continue school in Chicago but opted out last minute in a decision that would drastically change his life. He reveals to Nosiey his life living in a basement with no windows and getting into trouble. Even though it was a low point for Jazz he realized a lot about himself allowing him to bring personal stories to his music.

Cartier’s dedication to music has led him to a healthier state now as he thanks Toronto for shaping him for who he is today.

Jazz Cartier is confident is his future as he tells Noisey, “everywhere I go I feel bad who’s headlining after me. I’m not out here to break even, to be mediocre. I’m trying to be phenomenal. I’m trying to be a legend.”

Stay tuned for more episodes of New Legends throughout the fall.
