Kai Fortyfive Talks New Project ‘Silky Joints’

Kai Fortyfive discusses his inspirations and more!

Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?

Kai: Since like 2014 foreal, Iʼve been rapping since like 2007 no funny but I started taking it more seriously in 2014.

Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?

Kai: I got started because my mans EJ (who lived down the block) was a producer, so my friends and I would be in EJʼs crib every day in the studio trying to get on his beats. Only the people with the nicest verses could get on the tracks so yeah. In 2014 I started taking it more seriously because I had recorded mixtape at my mans Ozzy crib and my other mans Ariel heard it and said: “yo you need to drop this”. I never dropped that tape exactly but I basically re-vamped it and added some new songs and that tape came to be “All Things Get Better” which is my first release ever.

Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your latest single?

Kai: I donʼt have a latest single but I dead just dropped a whole EP called “Silky Joints”. Itʼs definitely some Silky raps over smooth loops or whatever. Something to sip some champagne and set the mood for shorty to feel me.

Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

Kai: I draw inspiration from a lot of places since Iʼm not only a rapper but a producer as well. As far as rap goes I draw inspiration from people like Common, 50 Cent, Ghostface Killah, GZA, and Nas to name a few, as far as producers I get inspiration from RZA, Madlib, Marley Marl, Havoc, Daringer, etc.

Getmybuzzup: How do you go about writing and producing a song and what is your process?

Kai Fortyfive Talks New Project 'Silky Joints'

Kai: It really depends. Sometimes I donʼt write at all, sometimes I pull out the pen and the pad. Usually, though I come up with the lyrics before I make the beat, which is rare because I know most people write to music. I find it hard to write to music.

Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your forthcoming project?

Kai: Basically I just wanted to pay homage to the soul and quiet storm joints from back in the day feel me. I really love that type of music so I was like let me bring my style of Hip Hop to those styles of music and letʼs see what happens.

Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest single?

Kai: Currently I have no tours in place but I do have a show coming up in Elmont around the end of April where Iʼll be performing Silky Joints plus more so facts pop out.

Getmybuzzup: What did you buy with your first check off music?

Kai: I copped a full tank of gas and a plate from the Mexican spot, It wasnʼt that much bread truthfully.

Getmybuzzup: What are must-haves when you’re in the studio working?

Kai: I just need some incense and Iʼm good truthfully. I donʼt require much when I lock-in.

Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

Kai: If they hatin let em hate and watch the money pile up.

Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists in the future?

Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc..)
