Speaking from the Senate floor following a vote to end debate on Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination, Republican Sen. John Cornyn said the entire confirmation process has sought to diminish Kavanaugh’s character and that senators supporting a supplementary FBI background check were chasing after “baseless accusations” of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh.
Quoting Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Cornyn said: “This was not a search for the truth, but a search and destroy mission.”
