Keith Ape Takes Over America In New Episode of “Noisey Raps”
By Amber B
Noisey is proud to present the latest episode of its series Noisey Raps, featuring one of the most intriguing new rappers, Keith Ape. Hailing from Seoul, South Korea, Keith has been on a rapid ascent since dropping his international hit, “It G Ma” — a song that fuses Japanese, Korean, and English lyrics with with quintessential Atlanta trap.
Noisey catches up with Keith and his Cohort Crew on their first U.S. tour, following the group from their first raucous SXSW shows to their main-stage festival debut with Skrillex. Along the way, Noisey witnesses a guerrilla Keith Ape music video shoot get broken up by the NYPD, hops in the studio with Keith as he records a new EP with Playboy Carti, and films the Korean rapper’s first music video in America — featuring none other than Waka Flocka Flame — through his label collective CXSHXNLY.
“Honestly, when it was first decided for us to go to the U.S., I was excited and worried at the same time,” Keith comments in the episode. “But once we got there, we were welcomed even more so than the reaction we get in Korea. They were loving our shit!”
