About Kur:

Philadelphia has come to be known as the “land of the spitters,” where rappers from all walks of life are competing to be the very best the city has to offer. One thing that allows you to stand out and differentiate yourself is out-rapping your competition. For Kur (pronounced “Core”), he’s become a conversation starter within the city’s rap networks. Kur has been bubbling with a string of mixtapes—Straight From the Kur, Straight From the Kur 2 and Broken Dreams—that put his rapping in the forefront: piercing punchlines, gripping tales of the streets, and introspection over instrumentals and original production.
In May 2015, Kur dropped How It Never Was that featured his slow burning, singing anthem “I’m a Star,” which caught the ear of Timbaland who initially wanted to help push the record. To cap off the year, he released another mixtape, Finally Happened, demonstrating that his work ethic is unmatched.
As Kur prepares to make a name for himself in 2016 and beyond, he’ll have to get used to bigger artists co-signing him. His most telling single to date is “Have Nots.” He has learned to live with his past, sharing with the world the type of people and things he saw growing up. The rawness of “Have Nots” elicited a response from G.O.O.D. Music president Pusha T who shared on Twitter: “Your truth is your greatness.”
Backed by the industry’s notable names and a loyal fanbase, Kur’s profile raised when he signed with eOne Music in August. Never one to not be working, Kur collaborated with Harlem’s own Dave East to piece together an EP called Born Broke, Die Rich that was recorded and released in the span of two days. On the horizon is a re-release of his track, “I’m a Star” with added verses, and last year he appeared in one of the Cyphers on the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards. In the meantime, Kur will focus on making his next project a big statement.
