Legendary hydroplane Bluebird ready to return to the water – Daily Mail

Donald Campbell, 45, was killed in 1967 when the Bluebird K7 flipped over while traveling at above 300mph. The high-speed boat lay at the bottom of Coniston Water in the Lake District for more than 30 years. Engineer Bill Smith raised the boat from the deep in 2001 and has been toiling to rebuild the famous hydroplane ever since. Following 17 years of a painstaking labour of love the boat will appear on Rothesy, Isle of Bute, in Scotland, and welcomed on the island by the Rothesay Pipe Band and local children.
