The once-and-future standard bearer for the Houston underground, Maxo Kream is on track to hit the big time. Coming through with an H-Town dream collab, Maxo shares “She Live,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion. Produced by TJ Osinlu, “She Live” (pronounced like Hive) finds Maxo and Megan trading flirtatious bars in a Pimp C-esque patter atop booming bass, flashing the lyrical ability that makes them stand out in the Houston and National rap scenes. On his verse and stuttering hook, Maxo describes his perfect woman–beautiful, curvaceous, and independent enough to earn a buck on her own. When Megan saunters in, she embodies Maxo’s fantasy, spitting her signature raunchy rhymes: “Houston hottie, natural body/I want it and he gon buy it/Cause I’m freaky and I’m loyal/He love it so I get spoiled.” Enjoy this audio stream below after the jump and please share this with friends.
Last week, Maxo started a new chapter in his career, as he signed a new record deal with Big Persona/88 Classic/ RCA Records. To celebrate his lucrative new partnership, Maxo shared “Still,” a thumping ChaseTheMoney produced banger. With a bit of introductory smack talk from Maxo’s father, “Still” finds the Houston native shouting out his new label: “Still makin’ deals, just signed me a deal/Signed to RCA, one point five mil.” “Still” is Maxo’s second single of 2019, following “Meet Again,” which has over 2.8 million streams on Spotify. The video, which released earlier this year to the tune of 1.1 million views on YouTube, was directed by acclaimed director Shomi Patwary (Beyoncé, A$AP Rocky, Pusha T).
Generating over 30 million streams on Spotify alone, Maxo’s 2018 project Punken earned massive critical acclaim, including “Best Of 2018” honors from Noisey, The AV Club, FACT Mag, and DJ Booth, among others. The project’s most recent single “Roaches,” which boasts a creative music video with over 4.6 million YouTube views, currently enjoys prominent placement in Spotify’s “Off The Strength” and “The Sauce” playlists. Featuring appearances from Trippie Redd, 03 Greedo, and D. Flowers, and with production from The Wlderness, Beatboy, Sonny Digital, Ethereal, Honorable C Note, $uicideboy$, Tommy Kruise, Wolfe De Mchls, Teddy Walton, and MexikoDro, Punken built upon 2015’s Maxo 187and 2016’s The Persona Tape with emotional and sonically diverse tracks sitting side-by-side with drug-dealing bangers. Expect a similar creative and commercial leap from Maxo’s next project, hitting stores this Spring.
