Singer / Songwriter Mel Maryns on How She Got Started, Inspirations & More [Interview]

Biography:

Mel Maryns’ real name is Melissa Marins de Queiroz Ferreira, but since she was little everyone used to call her “Mel” as a nickname all the time.

So, she decided to change a little bit her second name by adding a “y” to “Marins” and it turned out “Mel Maryns.

Mel Maryns is a singer, songwriter, pianist, producer and who lives in Cork, Ireland. She has been singing since she was a little kid, her dad used to play guitar and there was always music in the house, they always used to sing together and she always had this really good feeling when she used to sing as if that was her destiny.

She started her singer and songwriter career in 2017 when she released her first original single called “Fala Serio”. Her biggest musical influencers are Guns and Roses, Skid Row, Evanescence, Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes, and Ariana Grande.

When she moved to Ireland in 2018, she started Busking and performing in St Patrick’s Street, Cork and Grafton street, Dublin.

Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself? (Such as where your from, etc)

Mel Maryns: My name is Mel Maryns I’m 17 years old and I’m from Cork, Ireland.

 

Getmybuzzup: How did you come up with your stage name?

Mel Maryns: My real name is Melissa Marins, but since I was little everyone used to call me “Mel” as a nickname all the time. So I decided to change a little bit my second name by adding a “y” to “Marins” and it turned out to “Mel Maryns” which I love it and it’s so cool.

 

Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?

Mel Maryns: I’ve been in the music industry for 3 years. Since 2017

 

Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the music business in the first place?

Mel Maryns: I’ve been singing since I was a little kid, my dad used to play guitar and there was always music in the house, we used to always sing together and I always had this really good feeling when I used to sing as if that was my destiny. Knowing that, I started writing my own original songs, I learned how to play the piano by teaching myself and watching videos on YouTube and after a while I started singing on the streets and I just knew that singing was my passion and it felt like it was meant to be.

 

Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your latest single?

Mel Maryns: My latest single is very pop-rock.

 

Getmybuzzup: When can fans expect the visuals for this single?

Mel Maryns: At the moment, I have all my songs available on all music platforms. Hopefully, in the future, I’ll be releasing a music video.

 

Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

Mel Maryns: My inspirations are Gun’s and Roses, Bon Jovi, Skid Row, Evanescence, Shawn Mendes, Billie Eilish, and Ariana Grande.

 

Getmybuzzup: How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?

Mel Maryns: I write everything that my heart feels. I start with the melody, then what I want to talk about then I write the lyrics. I find inspiration in everything even when I’m having a bad day, which leads me to write sad emotional songs. It’s very rare for me to not have inspiration as I’m always listening to music and reading. I’ve written all my songs by myself. I’m a very creative person and I love to write. The fact that you can put your feelings into words and melodies is everything to me.

 

Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your forthcoming project if you’re working on one?

Mel Maryns: The concept behind my latest single is about being heartbroken. It’s a story about a guy who told this girl he was in love with her but it was all a lie.

 

Getmybuzzup: What did you buy with your first check off music?

Mel Maryns: I invest everything on my career!

 

Getmybuzzup: What are must-haves when you’re in the studio working?

Mel Maryns: Fun. Music is inspiration so if you are feeling stressed or anything nothing will come out. So I think you need to relax and enjoy the moment.

 

Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

Mel Maryns: To never give up and work hard. Trust me I know it sounds cliché but it’s the truth.

 

Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists in the future?

Mel Maryns: Hopefully. It would be a dream.

 

Getmybuzzup: What artist have you had the pleasure of working with and what was it like?

Mel Maryns: I haven’t had the opportunity to work with any artists but hopefully in the future.

 

Getmybuzzup: Name artists that you would love to work with?

Mel Maryns: I would love to work with Shawn Mendes, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish. There are so many artists I would love to work with! (Literally everyone)

 

Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?

Mel Maryns: Both. I create the sound of my music based on the lyrics. So, you can get to enjoy what I’m saying and the beat too!

 

Getmybuzzup: What’s your all-time favorite song?

Mel Maryns: That’s a hard question, I don’t have a favorite song because I listen to any kind of music. I love every song.

 

Getmybuzzup: What was the last album you listened to?

Mel Maryns: The last album I listened to was Wonder by Shawn Mendes.

 

Getmybuzzup: Your favorite artist of all time and why?

Mel Maryns: I think my favorite artists of all time have to be Guns and Roses.

 

Getmybuzzup: Whose your fav five artists right now?

Mel Maryns: My favorite artist right now is Shawn Mendes.

 

Getmybuzzup: Who have been some of your favorite artists that you’ve been able to work with?

Mel Maryns: I haven’t been able to work with any artists yet. But hopefully in the future.

 

Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?

Mel Maryns: I love it. It’s like I’m putting my feelings into beats and lyrics. I love my current music.

 

Getmybuzzup: Any dream award shows you hope to one day play at?

Mel Maryns: It would be a dream to play at the AMW ( American Music Award).

 

Getmybuzzup: What is your main goal as far as music?

Mel Maryns: I want to go on tour someday with a band and inspire people with my music.

 

Getmybuzzup: Who would you say your music relates to the most?

Mel Maryns: I think teenagers can relate to my music the most. As I’m only 17 and I write about my experiences as a teenager.

 

Getmybuzzup: When you’re not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?

Mel Maryns: Well, I really like to skateboard and watch series in my free time. One thing that I’m very passionate about is composing songs. I write everything that I feel. I love the idea of putting your feelings into words and melodies.

 

Getmybuzzup: If you could work with any producer who would it be?

Mel Maryns: That’s a hard question. I think everyone is so talented. It would be a dream to work with any producer.

 

Getmybuzzup: What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?

Mel Maryns: The biggest highlight of my career so far was when my song “Get Away” played on the biggest radio in Dublin, Ireland for the first time! I was like “HEY MOM I’M ON THE RADIO”. It was one of those moments that you will never forget.

 

Getmybuzzup: What is your dream venue to perform at?

Mel Maryns: My dream venue to perform at would be “Rock in Rio” in Brazil.

 

Getmybuzzup: What artist music are you currently a fan of?

Mel Maryns: I’m a big fan of Shawn Mendes, I think he’s so talented and his music really inspires me.

 

Getmybuzzup: When performing live what are some of the things you do to get the crowd involved?

Mel Maryns: I like to talk to them, interact with them. That way I can show them that I care about them!

 

Getmybuzzup: When performing live and the crowd is singing along how does that energy make you feel?

Mel Maryns: I haven’t had the opportunity to sing live for a crowd yet, but I can imagine it’s the best feeling in the world.

 

Getmybuzzup: What’s the name of the last book you read and by whom?

Mel Maryns: I’m not a reading person I’m not going to lie…

 

Getmybuzzup: What’s your favorite sports team and why?

Mel Maryns: I’m not really into sports so I can’t say much!

 

Getmybuzzup: Whose your favorite actor or actress and their best movie?

Mel Maryns: I love Kristen Stewart, Margot Robbie (Birds of Prey), Alycia Debnam -Carey (The 100), Jonny Depp, Robert Downey Jr. I could be here all day telling you all my favorite actors and actress are.

 

Getmybuzzup: Name someone famous who inspires you and why?

Mel Maryns: Ariana Grande really inspires me in every aspect, she is so talented and wise. I’ve been a fan since I was a little kid and she is one of my idols.

 

Getmybuzzup: What can we expect from you in the future?

Mel Maryns: I’ll be releasing a new single every month till the end pf the year! I’m super excited about this! I can’t wait for everyone to hear my music.
