New Single: OMB Peezy | “My Dawg” [Audio]

OMB Peezy

By Jack Barnes

Applying his motormouthed southern drawl to the high-energy instrumentals of his adopted homeland of Northern California, OMB Peezy breaks down the boundaries of regional rap. Taking the time to pour one out for a close friend, Peezy shares the mournful, yet defiant My Dawg.” Digging deep into his roots, eschewing Bay Area styles for a piano-and-organ-led southern instrumental, Peezy mournfully recounts painful memories, wishing for one last peaceful moment with his lost friend and lashing out at those he believes is responsible: “Every morning I wake up and I’m waitin on you to call/I hear your voice when I’m in the studio tellin’ me ‘Imma ball’/We gon’ hold court in this street, fuck the law/You wanted me to win, these n*ggas waitin’ on me to fall.” Premiered by XXL, “My Dawg,” which follows the lyrical loose single “Got You,” is the latest single off Loyalty Over LovePeezy’s mixtape, releasing tomorrow. Enjoy this audio stream below after the jump and please share this with friends.

“A lot of people in my life have died in 2018. I know that everyone loves somebody and they will feel this song,” Peezy tells XXL. “I express my feelings through music and I know a lot of people will understand what I’m going through.”

Stuffed with glistening Dirty South instrumentals, Loyalty Over Love is the culmination of Peezy’s sharp lyrics about his life as a rising star and his struggles with the legal system. Whether he’s seething at inept law enforcement on the previously released and Noisey-premiered Fuck My P.O.,” fiercely asserting his individuality and independence within an oppressive system on “Souljah Life Mentality,” enjoying the spoils of his success in the TK Kravitz-featuring “Yeah Yeah,” or paying tribute to the West Coast with the Dr. Dre-referencing and Donny Hathaway-sampling “Ghetto Boy.” Peezy is a magnetic presence, weaving his threats and boasts around hot instrumentals. Featuring additional appearances from Mozzy, Paper Lovee, and OMB Iceberg, Loyalty Over Love arrives on August 10th via Sick Wid It Records/300 Ent.
