An earthquake that struck off the northern coast of Haiti late on Saturday killed at least 11 people and injured more than a hundred when several buildings collapsed in the impoverished Caribbean country, officials said. The magnitude 5.9 quake was centered about 12 miles west-northwest of the coastal town of Port-de-Paix, at a depth of 7.3 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The USGS said the quake hit at 8:11pm local time. The country’s civil protection agency said on its Twitter account that there were reports of damage and injuries, but gave no immediate details.
