OMB Peezy Teams with Sherwood Marty for Upcoming Young & Reckless Collaborative Mixtape

OMB Peezy

By Jack Barnes

Bursting onto the scene in 2017 with his inimitable drawl and tumbling flow, 20-year-old rapper OMB Peezy is ready to take over the game in 2018. Teaming up with kindred spirit and Baton Rouge native Sherwood Marty (recently featured in Complex’s Bout To Blow column), Peezy announces Young & Reckless, the duo’s upcoming collaborative mixtape. Packed with southern fried bangers, varied flows, and irresistible hooks, Young & Reckless finds the two emcees maneuvering through life with street wisdom and experiencing the pitfalls that come with the streets. Featuring an appearance from TK Kravitz and production from Drum Dummie and others, Young & Reckless releases on January 24th
To accompany the mixtape announcement, OMB Peezy and Sherwood Marty share “Crash Out,” a classic Bayou banger with reverb-heavy guitar scratches, a walking bassline, sentimental keys, and skittering hi-hats. Produced by Drum Dummie, the maestro behind Peezy’s breakout hit “Lay Down, “Crash Out” finds Peezy and Marty recruiting Sherwood Flame for a tough-talking, violent street anthem. Premiered by XXL, “Crash Out” demonstrates the electric chemistry that permeates the entirety of Young & Reckless.

Born in Alabama, the 20-year-old Peezy moved to the west coast when he was 12, developing a reputation as a rap prodigy, building a following on YouTube, and gaining the respect of the new wave of Bay Area artists such as Nef The Pharaoh and legends such as E-40. In 2017, OMB Peezy parlayed his grassroots local fanbase into a national following, earning millions of combined streams on his singles like the virally popular hitsWhen I Was Down,” Porch,” and Lay Down,” which Pigeons & Planes listed at #14 in their halftime list of Best Songs of 2017. In October, Peezy shared his debut project Humble Beginnings, a slap-heavy six-pack produced in full by Grammy-nominated producer Cardo Got Wingz (Kendrick Lamar, Jeezy, Meek Mill) and released by Sick Wid It/300 Ent.. Peezy also toured throughout 2017, supporting Detroit artist Tee Grizzley in the fall and accompanying SOB x RBE on a national tour in the spring. In November, he collaborated with Gucci Mane on “Pray For Me,” a track by producer Adam Snow. Most recently, Peezy shared videos for Humble Beginnings hits “Talk My Shit” and “Doin’ Bad,” and released a revealing documentary via TIDAL.

Signed to 300 Ent., Louisiana rapper Sherwood Marty burst onto the scene in 2016 with the breakthrough mixtape Struck in the Trenches: Self Made Vol. 1, which featured appearances from Scotty Cain and others. In 2017, Marty continued to build buzz, generating over 1.3 million views for his “Sherwood Baby” music video, earning more than 700k plays for his single “Ride,” and recording a popular remix to YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s hit single “Untouchable.” The latest in a long line of soulful Bayou-born rappers, Sherwood Marty will elevate his game even further in the coming year.
