“I’ve got eyes in the back of my head,” says RJMRLA. Literally. When he pulled up to MASS APPEAL HQ the artist who helped to heal the DJ Mustard x YG rift back in 2016 had the shape of an eye cut into his hair because he’s “Always watching, always aware.” RJ spoke on how Snoop inspired him to become a rapper, and how he handled the backlash from those who doubted his right to call himself “Mr. L.A.” And yes there was a backlash. “I’m loyal to my soil,” reasons RJ, who also spoke on how his issues with 03Greedo first arose, and how the two managed to defuse the tension with an epic lyrical battle onstage. “He from Grape Street Watts. I’m from Athens Park. You know what I mean? It got tricky,” RJ says. “By the grace of God it was big for the culture though.” Check out the latest episode of Open Space right now.
