Persona on Being raised in Philly, New Album, Inspirations & More [Interview]

Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself?

Persona: I was born and raised in Philly in a section called Germantown.

Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?

Persona: Professionally a little over 10yrs. Pretty much been doing music since the late 90’s.

Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?


Persona: Use to write battle rhymes and compete at lunch time at school.

Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your sound?

Persona: True Hip Hop

Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

Persona: Jay Z, Busta Rhymes, Rakim, Nas and 2pac.

Getmybuzzup: What are you currently working on?

Persona: I’m recording my solo album called “My thoughts My words My life” dropping Summer 2017. We also got the “Pose 4 Me” single dropping May 26, 2017 its featuring IAMPLEX, C NOTE$ and Grammy Award Winner Guordan Banks.

Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your latest project?

Persona: Pretty much trying to restore the feeling of Hip Hop, I got alot of feel good records and records with substance you going to be able to play this album front to back even the skits.

Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest project?

Persona: Yeah we gonna put together a nice promo tour no dates as of yet still putting things in motion.

Getmybuzzup: What did you buy with your first check off music?

Persona: I took it and invested back in to my recording sessions.

Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

Persona: Learning it (the business)

Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists on this project or in the future?

Persona: Yeah I got Maddness, Budda Banks, IAMPLEX, C Note$, Guordan Banks and i got a couple of other surprise guest just waiting for sessions to return back to confirm.

Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?

Persona: Both. I do a pretty good job at picking beats and putting great bars on them.

Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc..)

Persona: Promotions

Getmybuzzup: What’s your all-time favorite song?

Persona: I have a lot of them but if I had to pick one Jay Z’s “Allure“.

Getmybuzzup: In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?

Persona: Jay Z. He understands that being number 2 is not an option just first one to lose.

Getmybuzzup: Who have been some of your favorite artists that you’ve been able to work with?

Persona: Pretty much my Madd Reign Entertainment Camp. I’ve done shows with heavy hitters tho like Run DMC, Chub Rock, Special Ed, and a lot more but those my favorite shows.

Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?

Persona: I may not like a lot of the music being put out but I respect the hustle. Its a lane for everyone you just gotta get in yours.

Getmybuzzup: What is your main goal as far as music?

Persona: I wanna give listeners something that they can appreciate and say “Damn finally a record for us!”

Getmybuzzup: Who Would you say your music relates to the most?

Persona: 30 and over crowd, the true Hip Hop fans even tho folk under 30 gonna love it as well.

Getmybuzzup: What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)

Persona: My Passion, My Substance and way I view this music.

Getmybuzzup: When your not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?

Persona: I work all the time I got 2 other companies outside of Madd Reign Entertainment Label. I do contracting and IT support.

Getmybuzzup: If you could work with any producer who would it be?

Persona: Pharell

Getmybuzzup: What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?

Persona: Being the first rap artist to perform at the Philadelphia Jazz Clef Club, and Im still creating a legacy ask me again in a year.

Getmybuzzup: What artist music are you currently a fan of?

Persona: Kendrick Lamar

Getmybuzzup: When performing live what are some of the things you do to get the crowd involved?

Persona: I talk to them I show them they mean everything to me. I get them to recite catchy lines and be involve with song.

Getmybuzzup: When performing and the crowd is singing along how does that energy make you feel?

Persona: It makes me feel good to know my body of work is recognized.

Getmybuzzup: What can we expect from you in the future?

Persona: Big records, Big Moves and a Brand that’s solidified.

Getmybuzzup: Anything else ya’ll wanna add?

Persona: Just get ready to journey wit me I promised is gonna be a hell of adventure.
